I agree with that fact that either one should be fine. It appears in the picture that the gasket is rubber? If so you would have to worry about that one drying out and failing. But the time it would take for that to happen is probably way beyond the ownership span of said car or truck.

A crush washer is pretty much permanent until you remove it and then you would need a new crush washer.

Nope. Have had one on the Optima for a few years too since I got it. I usually put them on vehicles (although I normally don't own them long other than maybe my Supra) & haven't had a leak yet. Don't plan on it either from reviews I've read and my shortened personal experiences.

It's a fibrous gasket that appears to be made for a long-term solution and was created by the folks at Fumoto for their valve so that's good enough for me knowing all of the R&D that goes into these things. My guess is if they liked a standard crush washer they would have included one since they're cheaper to make than the one they include for free.

Ah fibrous. OK. So I am not familiar with that and it is not rubber so sounds like the right one to use to me.

You can't change my mind on the square tube. I like the look and like the idea of having some sort of theme to my fab too. However I used 1/4" wall for everything and realized that is way overkill so I will keep only high risk areas in 1/4 and go to 1/8 for everything else and shave a lot of the weight.

So I mentioned this a long time ago. But my cousin is an engineer and figured out that the square tube is actually about 2x as strong with the same thickness as round...

LOL well at least you stick to your guns ;-)

yeah that's probably a good idea... 1/8th isn't too bad anyways... shit half the aftermarket bumpers like Relentless or Elite are only 3/16"

I think it came up when I was planning the sliders and that's why I did what I did then. That makes me feel better about going to half wall thickness too. Thanks Austin. When are we gonna wheel again. You were there when I popped the taco cherry!

Anyone heading to Rock Therapy interested in doing the Kokopeilli starting on the 28th? I've got two people interested right now... Squeaky Penguin and one kid from Cali...

for those that don't know what it is... it's a trail from around Grand Junction that leads to down town moab... it's a 3-4 day trail depending on our group speed... with amazing views and very remote.

;) I sometimes have to be painfully different, it is those times I stick the best/worst. I think you guys will like this idea.

How much of a welding issue will it be to put 1/4" (thick metal) to 1/8" (thin metal). Could that be more of a pain?

Not certain of your design but could you use C channel steel for some of it to reduce the weight?

Yeah I've heard that... I just like giving him shit. :D

I like his sliders, I just prefer round tube on my truck. that being said... I'm doing square tubes under the body and to the frame... with a round kick...

or... that's what I'm planning LOL

It's not impossible... just takes some skill... course I just started welding... but I've been welding .120 wall to everything from 1/2" to 1/8"... just gotta make sure you burn onto the thicker material and walk it up onto the thinner material... (course that's with stick, but I ASSume it's the same with all forms of welding)
