Well I got to play today on a vehicle carrying a trailer full of hay that caught fire. Still unknown what started it though. It first started with the hay and then made its way into the brush off the side of the highway!!!! We were on scene for about 3 hours. One of our structure engines you see in the 3rd pic had to go back into town to fill up with water 2 times.

BLM Wildland Firefighters got our back and helped us out a bunch!!!!;)

California is burning up big time right now. We just had one like 4 days ago where the lady recklessly threw her cigarette out and started a 1500 acre fire and is now being charged with two felony counts.

the hay prob. had to much moisture in it thats what happens when theres to much moisture and it gets hot and ignites seen way to many barns burnt down cause of that.

Yup, that is very possible! Oh and the driver does not smoke so it wasnt a ciggarete butt. We thought maybe one of the safety chains got loose from the hitch and was dragging on the ground causing sparks to fly into the hay.

is that a new duramax diesel in that chevy? maybe it was doing a particulate filter regeneration. not sure about light trucks but new heavy diesels get up to around 1000*C at the exhaust tip when doing regens... just a thought

Yup I have seen it happen. If the hay isn't dried out the heat from decomp begins to smolder the hay. In our barn it got to the point where we saw smoke but got to it quick enough to stop it.

My guess is it got out on the highway and the smoldering was fanned into a full out fire
