Cobra 19 Install

From Craigslist, I found a Cobra 19 Ultra III working perfectly, with mic, COAX cable, and firestick for $40. Good deal. Here is my install. It doesn't show EVERY move I made getting it here, but it could give some of you guys ideas.

These holes were drilled by the previous owner. I had always wondered if if was for a CB. Well turns out it fit perfect, so one less thing I had to do myself...

And here are a few after pics of what I did with wiring it to the firestick:

Under the steering column. I ran the hot wire to the fuse box and just stuffed it into the slot and put the fuse back in.


Ran the COAX under the seat and through the grommet thing:


Here it is coming up between the cab and bed:

hows the reception with this model? no speaker necessary?

Any better pics of how you have the hot and ground wire done? I have a Cobra 19 as well, but I have the hot wire direct to battery and ground to the engine bay... Been having issues using my CB and think my crap wiring job when I was 17 is to blame... Any advice to mimicking your set up to an electric noob?

And yes, this is a thread bump, but it pertains to the exact situation I have, so yeah.

Same model I have. You know it fits perfectly in your ashtray slot, right?

So you literally just took the exposed wire and pushed it into a empty fuse and then put the fuse cover back on? Looks easy and I wont have to go route wires through the damn firewall again. Thanks for the pics!

Cool. My electrical knowledge is a joke, and I know this, but hell I ain't gonna pay somebody to do something I can figure out on here. Thanks for the advice, I plan to mimic your set up exactly.

I wired up my KCs and they didn't come on. Couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why they weren't coming on. I had been out there all night and when I finally layed down to go to sleep, I remembered I probably didn't ground the lights. I had grounded the switch, but not lights. It's all funny after you figure out the issue but a real pain in the ass before that.

 

I would re think that hot wiring. And go get you an add a fuse from advance or somewhere similar. That what your wiring is protected and not just shoved in under a fuse.

 

I'm planning on it, without a doubt. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
