I received the two wheel bearing assemblies post haste. Installation was a beeze, ~3 hours. Relative to riding on the old noisy bearings, my 4x4 Tacoma now rides as quietly as a 4 door sedan! Well, almost.

The hubs came as advertised, were packaged well and I was provided prompt shipping.

Install was about 2.5 hours for both sides.

I had the same hub/bearing noise (grinding with vibration in the accelerator pedal) mentioned in several TW threads. I felt like my issue was not related to the differential because the noise did not change once I engaged four wheel drive.

I did not have tire wobble or could not reproduce the grinding sound when free-spinning either of my front tires. The driver side sounded just slightly worse than the passenger side, so I decided to change the driver hub/bearing.

I bought the unit made by nj636. Delivery was timely and the unit arrived in perfect condition. Luckily for me, the driver side was in fact bad and replacing the hub/bearing completely resolved my issue.

Installation was fairly easy. The hardest part for me was getting the old rotor off because of rust where the rotor meets the hub flange. But nothing that a torch and rubber mallet couldn't handle.

Been driving with the new hub/bearing for about 3,000 and it feels like I have a new truck!

That rotor can be a PITA to remove. I have used two 8mm bolts in the threaded portion of the rotor to press it off of the hub flange which is usually successful. not as much fun as using a torch

Thanks for the assemblies, quick delivery, and the prompt replies to questions. The assemblies arrived on Thursday and I replaced both front assemblies this weekend: one on Fri eve and one on Sat. Except for a few rusty bolts that required some PB Blaster, heat, and muscle to persuade them to come off, it was a pretty easy job. I'm no mechanic but I would recommend your assemblies and this job to anyone who wishes to save some serious money. A local garage quoted me $700-$800 to replace one bearing. I did them both for less than $400 (I needed to buy a couple tools I wanted anyway).

PB Blaster, Torch, 21 mm socket for lug nuts, 35 mm axle nut socket, 1/2" drive, breaker bar, 17 mm socket and box wrench, floor jacks, pliers, hammer, chisel, bungee cord, and Never Seez. I borrowed a 1/2" impact wrench and torque wrench. I think that's it. It's really not that hard to do.

 

That's a great list - I'm sure it will help more then just me - it's a major PITA 2 B in the middle of a job and find out U have 2 go out and find a left handed monkey wrench. Will a small hand held mapp or propane torch work or do U need a acetylene torch ? Thanks.

 

great list, torque wrench for the axle nut is imperative to the bearings life.

mapp gas would be sufficient.

getting the old assembly out of the spindle can take some prying back and forth. a good pry bar would be something to add to the list.

 

Didn't I read - loosen lugs a little and drive a little to break it loose easier then hammering and prying ?
