Morning everyone. Looks like my next set of Orders have me reporting to Everett Washington. Currently Stationed in Norfolk VA and should be heading that direction February next year.

So a question.... I am purchasing tires next month and was going to order Cooper Discoverer AT3 265/70R17 115T OWL. Anyone run these and how do they perform in the snow up there?

 

I ran them on my wife's trailblazer. They did well on hard packed snow and ice, sucked in the powder. It doesn't really snow in Everett, maybe two inches on a good year. The mountain passes are all plowed, you could make it over them on drag slicks if you know how to drive. If you want to go snow wheeling that tire is a bad choice, but I suspect that isn't what you are asking.

 

I used to live in Everett, and in 20+ years over there, they only got a significant amount of snow once (almost 2 ft over night) and that was melting away within a few days. Otherwise, any snow in north Everett where the navy base is tends to be melted away before sunset.

I am pretty sure Will (penguin_cc) is running those tires on his truck right now. If you want tires to play in the snow, get Duratracs. They are more expensive though. I recently moved to Spokane area and expect to have to deal with quite a bit of snow in the winter here, so I got new tires for myself, but haven't had them mounted yet. I got Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10. They are about the same for price as the Cooper Discover. I read a lot of reviews on them and only found one bad one with the rest being that it is a great tire for the value.

 

Well I would have to give them +100 for originality... Hideous...

Good memory Zach! I am running the AT3s in a 275 size. I would say they are just 'fair' in snow of all types. They perform pretty well on the trail but rocks not so good. Great on pavement, low highway noise.

The tires have a nice look, air down well and seem to wear well. I've had mine for 25K miles and they look like they can go for another 25K. I kind of wish I had tried the Dynapro ATMs. I will be trying a different tire next time.

100% agree on the hideous. Massive Barbed wire on your truck is like getting a massive barbed wire tatoo on your arm. It may have been cool 10 years ago, but possibly some regrets now.
