One more thing on the changing one of our family friends is a trans shop he said either to never change it (but top it off) or change it religiously because if you don't change it even if its not black you have build up in the trans that won't float around unless you change it. He said the worst is if you do a powered flush like at a dealer because that shoots the build up out and causes it to go bad faster. Everyone seems to be different on this one. In my family and friends ive seen two trucks go over 400,000 miles (our family's is still running actually) one never changed it and one did so idk what to think haha

Is the trans cooler all metal? It looked like it was. I bet that will solve yours being a bit hot too

I'm one that believes in changing it haha. As far as I know as long as it's not black and burnt it's ok to flush, but you have to be careful on the machine used. The place I'm gonna go doesn't flush, but they exchange it all without a machine. If it's a really bad trans or has never been flushed, that's when you're not supposed to flush

Yeah it should be metal. It seems to run at a decent temp except if I'm running city stop and go for a long time. Yours probably does the same thing, maybe you want to add a cooler. It can only help, and if you tow at all it's a necessity

Huh, weird. I think I'll just have my shop do the tranny fluids change. I'm going to do my rear and front diff soon and transfer case, just need a little oil pump and the oil

I think I'm screwed on the trans because I have no idea what the previous owner changed or not. And my rear brakes need new shoes or spring hardware and need to be bled

You can probably look through receipts to see what all he's done. I've never changed my rear brakes and they still have life in them haba
I wonder if the Easter bunny came to my house!?!

Me either, I'm probably still running original rear shoes haha. And yeah, from what I've seen the tacoma trans is already at an ok temp unloaded. I don't wanna know what I was running loaded. I know I could feel the trans heat the floorboard haha. Someone said here that by the time the a/t temp light comes on on the dash, you're already way too hot

I would have a shop check the fluid. It's it's not burnt you should be fine to change. You have one if those sealed trans that you can't check the dipstick haha

I'm thinking about putting the lift on hold. And starting to collect parts for a 4x4 conversion :D

How hot could you feel it through the floorboard? Once its on the dash thats basically saying that its overheated i feel like.
Yeah im curious to see what temp i run. Honestly I dont know how the radiator does since its was a "performance" one. If I get it im sure that i wont wont to get ride of it!

Hahah Ive noticed that alot of people creep on this thread regularly
Do it! if you can find the parts fairly easily that is. I would try to find locking hubs to keep your cv joints from spinning especially if you plan on lifting it that will help save them.

Yeah I would get locking hubs. Looking at a build thread here, a guy did it for like $1300 before he sold all his old parts

So basicly you would go 4x4 instead of a lift?

You can always rebuild hubs too I know slogetto did that when he did his conversion
