How to: AC outlet in cab + 400 Watt Anytime Mod 2nd gen

Yes i did. i want it secure as i have kids in the back and i have tons of electrical stuff laying around its a common nut and bolt 6/32 if anyone is curious.

 

Yea. Just to make sturdy as possible. I just tried different sizes and found the right match at Home Depot.

I saw that when I was at home depot. I should have done that, but didn't know much. Was my first time and other posts didn't have much info. Might have to switch mine out one day, but I doubt it. Have an access cab (don't have much passengers)

 

I have this Blue Sea dual USB outlet back there right now and was thinking about wiring it to a switch so my boy doesn't leave something plugged in and killing my battery. I won't have to worry about that with the household outlet run through the inverter.

The smaller square outlets give a much cleaner look in my opinion and I've been using them for a couple of years now. I did the 400w mod when it first showed up then added the extra outlets after someone posted which wires to tap. On mine I used an in-line plug so I can easily remove the center console and I mounted the outlets (two of them) forward on the right side of the center console near the gear shifter. I spaced them so that I can plug in two Nikon or GoPro battery chargers side by side for charging camera batteries. The 400w will run my netbook or the netbook and a battery charger with no problems and it'll charge my gaming laptop but it trips the breaker if you try to run games on it (it's a power hog).

For the guy who mentioned charging his phone, you are better off running/charging small DC gizmos off the 12v outlet than you are powering up the inverter only to convert it back to <3v DC which is what USB stuff uses. On a related note, most of the Wasabi chargers will plug into the 12v outlet so you don't have to use the inverter.

 

Out of that connector, which wire is the Hot and which is the Neutral?

Not on the receptacle, I know what wire goes where on those. I'm talking about the connector at the inverter.

In other words, I want the hot wire to actually be on the hot side of the receptacle.


** EDIT** I think you've labled hot wire as green at the inverter in your photo? Clever... I friggin' full-blown missed that.

I'm not sure I understand this USB plug.
This is simply wired into the 12V Dc truck power?
Or is it wired to the inverter?
Is a USB DC voltage?
Everything I want to plug into my inverter is phone/computer based.
I never have understood this computer USB cable thing.
I just plug them in and go.
