So my racks have been primed and painted, I used truck bed coating and it looks just like powdercoat. Anyhow I was going to do the install today but my idea to drill the holes through the weather stripping was no good, the hole was just getting mangled up the rubber was not looking good.
Going to go with the hole punch method so I ordered a set from Amazon for $12...I sure hope it works better then drilling.

Hole punch worked for me. Just took patience to go through the metal wire.

What do you mean about a hole punch? For the life of me I can't think if what you are talking about.

Hopefully I can get some people to pony up and try them out so you can see some more pictures. So far only shutterbug has purchased. Theloraxcross is pending on a possible purchase for his access cab.

I'm saving up for one right now. Hopefully be able to order by July and have it on for some pics then off for paint then back on for after. Still don't know if I want to paint it black or color matched to the truck.

A few updates and info for those who have purchased or are following the thread.

    Current Orders

Denvermojo - Your rack has shipped. You should have received an email with the confirmation info.

Calestus - Your crossbars are supposed to be done tomorrow. My wife will be picking them up when she is at a career conference but I probably won't be able to deliver the rack to you till the weekend.

AGVS1700 - Your crossbars are on order and as soon as they are ready I will ship yours out.

Evenflow - Powdercoat is supposed to be done tomorrow fingers crossed. I will ship as soon as I get the racks from them.

J4RR - I had a misunderstanding with your rotopax setup so it was delayed but I will get it out to you as quick as I can.

    Housekeeping

After getting feedback from those who have had their racks here are some pointers for those installing or painting theirs.

    1. The HDPE is reacting more to heat and cold than the supplier had told me. I am looking at some possible options for something different but most of the materials behave similarly. If you experience bowing from the deflector you can trim down the ends and widen the mounting holes so the rack will have more room to expand and contract with varying temperatures.

    2. I chose black oxide hardware in hopes of keeping a nice clean look for the racks since most people would be painting the racks black. However, the black oxide is not as resistant to rust as much as zinc plated or stainless. To ensure your hardware stays black and doesn't acquire surface rust, either plan on painting them with your crossbars/rack or hit them with some clear coat.

    3. A couple of the racks I sent out from a previous batch are showing some differences in mounting holes in the rear and middle mounting tabs making mounting difficult or not possible. If you have problems with this let me know before drilling new holes so we can trouble shoot a little and come up with a solution. I am striving to take care of all the concerns and questions I get so don't be afraid or hesitate to talk to me. The new batches are all slotted vs. individual holes so there won't be problems. From what I have heard the majority of the previous batches have been fine with a couple exceptions.

Last of all, thanks for the support and I hope you are all enjoying the new roof racks.

One more thing I was going to mention. I have been fiddling with a rack and measuring a 3rd Generation 4Runner. I ended up mocking up a set of the rails for the caprac on it since those 4runners have OEM tracks that are similar to thule. Well the rack fits quite nicely so anyone interested in a rack for a 3rd gen. 4runner let me know.

why does the access cab rack seem higher than the DC?

would it be possible to lower the 2 main pieces by bending the 6 mounting tabs higher, is there any reason why it needs to be 1.5in above the cab? why not .75-1in and also would you be able to add a few inches to the back of the roof rack?

    thanks

I really like the OG DC but I think the AC rack would look better lower with more length and a taper on the back

The height is the same on the access cab as on the double cab version. The rails were just shortened. You could drop the height down to where there was .75" of clearance but that doesn't give much room for deflection if you had the rack heavily loaded and hit some good bumps. (Then the rack could damage the roof.)

The other suggestions are great! These racks are always developing. The access cab version especially so I appreciate the input from those who have accesscabs.

I would be very interested in the 3rd gen 4runner rack. What is the pricing?

These are the same as the racks for the short bed toppers so pricing will start at $375.00 + shipping. Powder coat is extra as well as additional crossbars.

So today (4-25-14) is officially my last day of class for my undergraduate degree. I will probably be up most of the night/morning finishing up a final presentation. However, after that it is time to celebrate!

I have 1 Cabrac, and 2 Capracs/3rd gen 4runner racks, and 1 set of blank rails for the double cabs that I will offer at 20% off for today only in celebration. Once the clock hits 12:00 AM on April 26th the deal is over.
