Trying to figure out where to put them. Do I replace the existing reverse lights in the bumper, or add these to the angled part of the bumper beside the license plate?

 

They throw light out at 180º, so tucking them into the light buckets will limit their light output.

 

Took your advice, never thought to see if CBI would just send out some light hoops for me, if that pans out I'll go with the ARB tube clamps and run with it from there.

 

Why not building a bed rack just for the lights?

 

Oh ok... Build a bed rack that costs a few hundred dollars and a weekends worth of time to hold up two flashing lights. That makes perfect sense.

 

I think he means a single bar with light tabs on it.

 

Yeah, my idea of a bed rack is a bit more complicated than that. The rear lights will be going in the bumper and the front lights are going on the top cross bar on the ARB. I started making the brackets for the rear lights last night.

Hey Nathan, what size tube couplers did you get from ruff stuff for your scrub bars?

 

I used the 2.0" tube couplers. The OD of the sleeve will have to be turned down to fit in the pipe though. I had a local machine shop turn them down for me. You can use a grinder if you need to though.

Awesome job on the lights, they look bright as hell. One last question on those scrub bars, what are the ARB clamp dimensions? The CBI light hoops 1.5" DOM, didnt know if ARB uses 2" or not. Trying to determine if thats a valid option now.

 

I measured the OD of the ARB hoops. It came out to 1.885".

 

Interesting, those clamps may be out for me then, that would be a big gap in the clamp around the light hoop. Looks like I'll need to think this over some more. Thanks for the info!

 

The clamps don't come all the way together so there is room for a smaller pipe.

Finally had my exhaust re-routed over the weekend. Today I added a thermal barrier to keep from cooking the driveshaft and transfer case actuator.

 

Nice! VW days at work on that one?
