2009 Tacoma Sport Headlight recommendations

I am in need of some new headlights due to the DTRL burning the inside lens. I have seen many aftermarket headlights, but am unsure if any other brand is superior to the others. I do not want to spend 400 dollars on Toyota brand. I am looking for the same Sport headlights I currently have. If anyone knows of a certain brand or can direct me to a website it would help a lot!

I just ordered and installed these. So i cant tell you they last but i can tell you they look good. they are black instead of smoke though. I have a 09 DC LB Trd Sport.

Depo is not a bad brand but nothing is better than the stock light. I understand your concern about melting the lens and yes it is a flaw in the design. When I had my 2011 I did the BHLM and just removed the lens that covers the DTRL so no issues (never had a issue with it anyway). There are many write ups on here also on how to disable the DTRL if you are interested in that too.

If it were me... and you want to stick with the factory lights I would go with the Smoked Sport light (short of doing the BHLM which isn't really that hard). Most other aftermarket lights will not throw as good of a beam pattern as factory.

If you really want to go all out you could Retro them and get the best of everything but I realize that isn't for everyone.

Bottom line is, unless you run the new LED Headlights or do a Retrofit nothing will produce the light output of your factory lights. I've tried many different kinds with varying results but the stock factory is the best if keeping the factory look.

i am in the same boat. i was about to buy used ones, but it didnt work out. tired of looking.

is there a plug/play LED version? this from a newer truck? what years?

On my 2011 I did a BHLM and it worked out great and I loved it. In fact I've done a BHLM on almost every vehicle that I've owned. But when I bought the 13 the "chrome surround" that is inside the light really isn't enough to justify me taking them apart this time.

I ran into a thread talking about these LED lights and I got interested. Bought a set and quite honestly I could not be happier with them. They put out amazing light without blinding oncoming drivers and "so far" have been perfect. The write up is in the link posted earlier. Just another option for you.

So you are suggesting Depo lights with LED upgrades?

 

No.... I have no idea what pattern those would throw. I'm suggesting (and yes I know it hurts) factory lights with LED.

What about buying the Depos and using the lenses to replace the original ones? This way your still using the stock housings and reflector bowls. That should keep the same light patten.
