I can tell a little bit of difference. I think the new head unit has a little more power and so you can get a little more out of the speakers than before. Also, you can adjust the equalizer to get the sound just like you want it. I will look at upgrading the speakers later. My truck is an 08 and the stock head unit basically had a CD player and FM radio and that was it. So I wanted to upgrade that first. I really like all of the options for playing music (Aux., Bluetooth, XM) and the DVD player is pretty sweet too!

I think the difference would be about the same either way. Stock head unit won't have enough power to make a big difference with aftermarket speakers, at least not in my experience. Of course, you could add an amp to take care of that. Optimal would be to change both at one time, but I'm taking baby steps right now.

Probably just depends which after market speakers you go with really. But i do agree either way would net the same difference more than likely. But the headunit first is nice to add in the EQ and bit more power. ANd i did the same as you, headunit first and speakers later....all though the later for me was just a couple weeks lol.

1" sch 40 pipe. 2X2x.125 square tube. 2X.25 flat bar. 2x.5 flat bar. Tried to do it on the cheap. I've got well under $100 into it including air fittings & paint. 80ish pounds. I think it's about 7"above bedrails

Made some tie downs. Solid aluminum 7/8 bar and 1-1/2 flat bar. The bolts are threaded through the flat bar, through the stanchion, and into the solid bar. polished with the wire wheel.

I think it would look sweet if you took off everything but the red ones on the lower panel.
