Could've drilled holes where your crossbars are and doubled the volume. That's how I did my sliders anyway. Nice idea!

That's what I did. The only parts not tied into the air system are the 4 legs bolted to the floor.

that's called poor planning ^^^^ we start planning and engineering out projects, months and even years ahead of buid time to prevent unsafe scenarios like that. there's nto realyl a good reason to have a weld liek that

Except for when the company that's doing the drawings doesn't plan for how it's going to be put together.

that's why we have our own engineering group that works closely with the field folks. :D

plus, while it's nice if the designer takes constructability into acount, it's ultimately the field engineer and his team's responsibility to determine how to build it. Looks like he's jsut welding an olet into some 8'' ish pipe. that's either an afterthought that the field engineer should have cought when designing the build sequence, or it's a change order. and in the case of a change order for something like that, you would make sure that you had the safest access and assurance of the best quality, but removing the surrounding rebar.

Just a cheap little 110psi compressor at the house. Eventually, I'll pony up and buy an ARB compressor for the truck

I cannot tell you how often the work I carefully planned for ended up having to be done or re-done well after things like walls or other obstructions had been installed. It's a bitch having to go back but it happens.

I accepted that fact a long time ago. however, when having to do rework or install componentry after the initial install, there is a right and wrong way to do it. welding while laying upside down, tangled in rebar is the wrong way. people get fired at my company for allowing the craft to do things like that. No time delay or amount of money is worth working in an unsafe manner.

No. That's your ego speaking. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Like I said, that'll get you fired (depending on the company you are working for, or contracted with). Maybe some of the sketchier or less safety conscious companies would like you to "do whatcha gotta do", but all of the companies and people who put your health and safety as the #1 priority would much rather you come to them and work out a safe way to perform the work.

after a lot of bitching the shop managers are starting to realize this. its odd when all the workers are the ones complaining about safety and the owners blow it off

Sorry if this question isn't permitted here; but this seems like the perfect place.
Anyone around Greenville, NC who wants to tackle on the task of welding on some sliders?
Shoot me a PM. I will pay!

Yeah, it's pretty unfortunate when you come across owners like that.

Not trying to justify an unsafe practice. Just pointing out that you can plan all you want but execution is a whole different matter.
