That's what I'm counting on. Many times there are no finishers in Class 7sx. I think the reason is that it's one of the more accessible classes so there are a lot of yahoos that build a cage, enter their truck, mash the skinny pedal, and break down within the first 100 miles.

I've got more patience than aggression and I think it'll play well into this race. I would do horribly in a short-course race, but the long-course is right up my alley.

The finish line is a long way off -- just get there! :burnrubber:

It's getting closer! I heard from the fabricator yesterday and he mentioned something about spending the week painting. :p Apparently the interior is all back together except for the rear door panels (I'm still working on them in my garage) and the bumpers have a coat of black with metal-flake to match the cage.

I can't wait to see what this weekend has in store. The shop's been going back and forth with Fuel Safe concerning the fuel cell design. That would be the last major item before the project is completed, so this should be buttoned up soon!

That's the list of things that still need to be done. That's about the 5th list that's been attached to the truck over the past several months. Fortunately most of the items are crossed out! :p

LOL! Yeah, it's a no. The fuel cell pieces are cut and will be welded together this week. It's gonna be HUGE. I'll be carrying better than 60 gallons of fuel.

The owner of the shop wants to follow me to the gas station down the road just to see the pain of my first fill-up when the truck's done. :D

If I understand racing in general, we are talking about a 60 gallon cell that replaces the original tank (the regs require the removeal of the factory tank right?), not in addition to right?

Are there fuel stops in your event, or are you supposed to be completely self sustaining?

Even at 15 MPG (which is still kind of optomistic for running in 4wd through a desert) 60 gallons is 100 miles short of the finish line.

I know when the bikes/atv's run the race they have fuel stops setup along the way. I am not sure if the trucks/buggys are allowed?

Oh, there will be fuel stops. Several. Mileage usually cuts in half or worse off-road so I'll be happy to get 10mpg in the dirt/sand/silt even without a lot of skinny pedal.

Right now I'm expecting to stop at stations along the way when passing through towns, but if I can swing a BF Goodrich sponsorship then I'll have fuel waiting at their pits.

And yes, the stock fuel tank is gone. The new cell is a custom can that will have a Fuel Safe bladder when it's all finished. For the short term I'll be running and testing without the bladder just to get some time in the driver's seat. Fuel Safe wants the can in their possession when the bladder is made, so that's a truck shipment. Figure a week out, a week back, and probably 2 weeks for them to do their thing. That'll be during round 2 of fabrication this August/September.

 Holy crap MJP, I go out of town for a few weeks and you go and finish everything up. Maybe I should scoot until you have seats and a fuel cell.
