The history seems really weird to me. The breeders I talked to said griffs are more dependent (which I like) and germans are more independent (not a huge fan of). Griffons around here cost around $1000 and most the breeders that are at that price will only sell to hunters. I even asked about SAR service and he said "no, the dog is for hunting and that's who gets preference". The one breeder that sells them more as a family dog prices them at $1500.

Yeah, from all the reading I've done on them, the Griff is a better "family dog" than a GWP.

You might want to keep your eye on the rescue board, it seems like there are some out your way somewhat often.

I was in MT back around '05 and there was breeder/trainer of griffs. I can't remember if it was near Great Falls or Seeley Lake. Anyway, he was riding a bicycle and had 10 or 12 griffs following him down the side of the rd in single file. All were on e-collars and you could tell he had tons of time invested. When he stopped, they all sat. And stayed that way until he gave the lay command, all in German of course. I'm pretty sure he said $1500-$2000 per dog. They didn't seem very friendly though, I guess from being so intent of making sure they weren't going to be popped.

Speaking of beards, here's Layla when we first found her in the woods. Well, after we got her home and cleaned up. She's small, appears to be Jack and Brittany.

    And her now with Chief.

thanks man. These two are 4 and 3. Tango is very much a protective GSD and does not like other dogs. Georgie is a be love bug. Her soul is really just a golden retriever.

Well it sounds like I am having an impromptu MOD day at the house this Saturday. And guess what... we are installing a bumper. Stop on by if you are not working!

My girlfriend's dad used to breed them but only has the mom and one son left. Really good dogs but very aggressive if they don't know you. Unless you have milkbones:D

Yeap. Hence the reason I have NO need for ADT Security. Hell these guys hear a squirrel fart a mile away and bark really loud to report it. Sucks when it is the middle of the night.

Yeah man. She was 11 weeks old and had a stomach virus. The vet said that the stomach virus takes 6 or 7 weeks to develop to that point so we figured she'd been out running around since she was about 4 or 5 weeks old. And would you believe it, she's never had an accident in the house. She's now just over a year old and is the most loving dog ever. She still spazzes out sometimes but listens very well. I'm glad we found her, we would have hated to missed out on her.

That's the truth. I've had Danes, Huskies, Labs, and Chief is a Pitt mix but those GSD barks are pretty scary when you hear them. I thought Danes had a rough sounding bark until I heard theirs.

And she knows her song. If my gf starts singing Layla she comes in there and wants to dance.

I am still looking to take a dog out of the shelter or rescue program. My mom just sent me this guy. He is not to far away so maybe Ill visit him over the weekend too. Looks like he would be a big clumsy goof.
