Only with very careful tactical planning and the cover of darkness ... Most aren't worth the effort. ;)

... Exactly, he conserves 1/3 of his normal output ... And calls himself a slug.

You need to send me those drawings. Ive always wanted to see your work.

I have 39 custom stainless steel powder coated door headers in my shop for a job so we can install hardware into them and customer calls me today when we are 1/2 way done to tell me he messed up when he told me to order them. Turns out he submitted the wrong finish samples vs what he told me was approved.

No biggie...just another 10k in the bucket. This jobs going to be at least 50k over my bid just from their mistakes and my mark-up goes WAY up when I have to fix mistakes :D

Wait until they start having to pay air freight charges from Japan 2 months from know because they just released their door handles 3+ months late. Need them at end of this month....yea...they only have 9-10 week lead time + shipping/customs. Sure NP. Japanese will always take "expediting" bribes

    That's classified information
People just get in such a rush and don't bother to think things through ahead of time - gotta have it now, don't have time to worry about if its right or not  Occasionally I'll be on the phone with a customer and they'll apologize for asking so many questions - my typical response is that I don't mind the questions now (while they're reviewing the drawings), thats the time to be asking questions! Id rather have questions asked in a calm manner before things have been produced and not from a panicked contractor who has a crane on site and a bunch of guys standing around with nothing to do because something is wrong and it wasn't caught in the review process. I'm convinced that about 25% of what I do is never actually read. I suggested a while back that we "hide" comments in the drawings just to test people...things like "call xxx-xxx-xxxx when you read this note and we'll give you a gift card for...." I don't think anyone would call.

Can I get an AMEN brother! ;)

    Really today was laid back.

Worked out, group workout, so it was intense. Went over to church and signed a check. Went to the store for my son. Picked up my son from school and took him to the doctors. Almost forgot, started the chainsaw so I can take down a very small tree tomorrow at church. The tree snapped in half due to the snow this winter.

No it's not ... I get questions on load plans all the time where I point to the spot on the plan saying "what does the bold print note right here read?" Some people are just lazy and want the answer handed to them instead of taking the time to read/research.

What was that about you can't fix stupid?

Hang in there Weesa, got wine? ;)

    :frusty: :annoyed:

Get to talk to my boss tomorrow about a guy at work not completing the tasks he's said are complete. It looks bad on all of us and will take more of my time to fix it and do it right. On top of that the things he's done are done very sloppily. I'm having a hard time with it because I like the guy and I thought he was better than this.

I'm still trying to figure out how to approach this with my boss because I've never done this before. I know I'm not perfect in what I do, but my tasks are at least complete and function correctly with some semblance of consistency.

and they've been laying there all winter? slacker...

somehow I'm not really comforted in knowing this

    yes, wine.

That reminds me of a customer a while back...I was on the phone with him going over things and he asked about some particular detail. I explained it to him and he commented that we should really have a note on the drawings explaining that. I told him there was a note, about 2" away from the area we were just talking about. He said maybe he needed to take a closer look at things. Yeah, probably a good idea.

does he know that he's not doing things correctly? has anyone explained to him what he is to do step by step or was it just assumed that he knew or would figure it out on his own? go in giving him the benefit of the doubt and see how things play out

I've talked to him several times. He is also supposed to be the expert in this software. If I knew he didn't know any better it would be different. But he does know better, supposedly better than me.

well then if he does now whats expected of him and its just laziness or carelessness on his part you're justified in going to the boss. I'd have a few specific examples ready to illustrate that this is a reoccurring thing - and be sure to explain why it was wrong and not just point out that it was wrong. let the boss know that you've tried to hadnle this situation on your own but haven't seen any improvement and would like him to step in.

If you like the guy, I think Lisa's approach is good.

I do, however, have one pretty big concern. He's saying he personally completed tasks, then you find out the tasks are not completed? If so, that's an integrity issue. You can't trust him and you should be blunt in telling your boss that. I can't stand, and won't tolerate a liar. Just my opinion FWIW.

Don't jeopardize your integrity because you like him or want to be nice. It's business, not a social event.
