Maybe you should have gotten a monster truck! Crank up the preload on the shocks for more ground clearance.

I used to take some sheet aluminum and make little skid plates for my lower control arms, worked great!

Still. Better to stay all plastic except drive shafts. Lighter and cheap! Just stock up on lots of spares for the stuff that breaks often. Or drive good

 

try cutting an soda can in triangles fold the sides and make your own light weight lca skids

3 cell is only fun on the road. But it also breaks to much stuff, I would go with the biggest 2 cell you can fit with the highest c rating you can afford. Check out hobby king and nitroRCX have great deals on lipo's. I have some of the "off brand" lipo's and they are still going strong after 4 years.
