Great write-up with pics. Although I'm sad I missed this run I do have a few questions. I had called Jemez Ranger district on Friday and the gal said that 289 from Cochiti was still closed. I saw a pic with the closed road signs but was curious??? Also, I know Sgt Taco had mentioned the San Antonio Hot Springs, I had drove up there on Friday but found the gate closed. I talked with some hikers coming down who said the Springs were about two hours hike from the closed gate. Does anyone know when/if they open the gate to San Antonio Hot Springs?
    Thanks.

We took a quick hop up to check the gate to the hot springs. They were closed. I have a funny feeling, they keep them closed year round to cut down traffic and idiots from trying to drive up to the springs in their passenger cars.

As for 289, not sure what road we were on that was marked closed but we had actually driven 1/4 mile past the turn-off when we hit those barriers. Not sure what the ranger meant that 289 was closed.

Right on guys, I'm glad you had a good time. This run has been on my list for a long time, and I was glad to have some good company along while I crossed it off.

EPIC FAIL! This was a good one. It's alright, though, there will be more.

RDTres, like Tom said, 289 is definitely open. The "road closed" signs were located on the road that takes you up to Dixon Apple Farm and the bottom end of Bandalier. They closed that road after the fire, years ago, and it has yet to re-open.

As far as the road up to the SA hot springs, I know they used to open it at times. I'm not sure of the dates. I drove to the top a few years ago, I think it was in 2011. But who knows, things may have changed since then. It is still listed on the MVUM as a legal road, so I don't see them keeping it closed 100% of the time. Best bet would be to check back with the Jemez Ranger District.

next run i will try and make for sure! Should have a made a detour up to Saint Peters Dome Lookout talk about awesome views!

the road to dixons has been closed and more then likely will not reopen for sometime, i will be in that area on wednesday next week and i can check road conditions for a possible run through there.

We stopped at the turn off for the SPD lookout and considered heading out there, but we still had a long way to go and time was flying. We figured we could always get it next time around.

A few of us have been in that area a number of times. We were up in the neighborhood last Saturday. The gate was closed but you can hike it in. Roughly 2 miles, I think.

I've been wanting to go there for a while now... Gate has always been closed every time I try to go... The Spence hot springs is great also, only about 1/2 walk from parking.

It seems to me that people are paying very little attention to details of the posts within this thread.

Not trying to be a jerk, but that location has been discussed quite a bit in the last page or two.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, Nick. People can take the time to clue in or miss out on the fun.

You want a CD of these pictures sooner than Wrench Week? Let me know so we can arrange a hand-off if desired.

There may be a Memorial Day adventure. I've got to see how the truck is going back together though, before I can plan anything.

Ahh yes, I didnt realize the hot springs were in that area. Sorry, I will check twice before posting. The hot springs were nice. The road is closed until 1 June so it was a 5 mile hike, uphill both ways. :D It was nice to soak my balls in 40 degree weather and I got HOT. The photo is from our campsite with an amazing view.
