It's the whole trust thing. If you can't trust your eyes things can be scary.

It'd would be like seeing and meeting a hot girl then getting to know her then realizing it was XXXX the whole time.

    The better coast
Or it being a cougar and finding out it's your mother who abandoned you as a child after a night of adult antics. This is not to mention the fact that adoption and sperm donation makes it likely genetically related people have gotten together, unknowingly...

I grew up in Arizona. That is not all that scary.

Try tubing the Salt river and one of your friends has an asthma attack. Get them to the shore and try to get them comfortable as you wait EMS. You notice their skin crawling and you start to think you're tripping until you realize they are covered in small baby scorpions. Damn neared drowned the poor girl trying to clean them off of her.

Its actually not really a mystery. It has nothing to do with processed food, or fortified food, its plain and simple science.

In 1920 the average person consumed 12 lbs of sugar a year. (baking sugar, fruit, bread, pasta, etc.) Now the average american consumes 140 lbs a year. All types of sugar, natural and processed are handled the same way by your body, with insulin. After years and years of forcing your body to handle more sugar than it can handle, day after day, it will eventually give up, it has to.

Type I vs II is far different as forerunner said. Diet clearly has a large impact on Type II. I think the type of food you eat has major influence. IMHO the biggest factor for developing type II DM is activity level and exercise. Even if you eat a lot of crap, exercise decreases blood sugar and induces up regulation of insulin receptors making the body more sensitive to glucose metabolism. If you are stagnant and don't do any physical activity with a constant influx of food, pancreatic beta cells which produce insulin stop functioning. As a result the body doenst produce as many insulin receptors and glucose metabolism is sluggish leading to consistently elevated high blood sugar. High blood sugar is damaging to many organ systems such as peripheral nerves, retina, cardiovascular, etc. Staying active I believe is one of the keys in preventing Type II DM.

Its crazy what 12 years of education will do. No I just try and shed light and help when I can. I am not an endocrinologist but what i said is very basic on a medical understudying of the pathophysiology of Diabetes.

Well i may not have as technical an understanding as you, I do have a fairly good understanding of it (diabetes runs in my family so Ive done the research)and yeah I agree with you. If you're active enough you can pretty much eat and drink what ever you want, Problem is that is what? like 10-12% of the population that is more active than their carb intake?

The real key is finding a balance. Whats real funny is if people gave up their soda, juice, smoothies, etc, they'd be pretty close to being balanced without doing much else.

Now if only I could quit drinking soda.... :(
