Out with the old, in with the new!

Heat was starting to come from Toyota corporate re. the repair frequency on my truck, and I proposed to the service manager that he talk to his sales staff and suggest that they make me an offer I couldn't refuse on this:





They made it turn into this:




I had gotten my old one appraised at another dealership, and my home dealership was quite a bit higher. In order to seal the deal, I requested they swap the stock 4ply rubber for a set of BFG AT, load range E.

My 2.7l 5 speed did the job, but I was completely sick of shifting the thing, and I don't think I would have been happy with the 4 speed automatic alternative.

V6 auto it is! I'll have to get some sort of protection (a folding baton, pepper spray, etc.) in order to keep the ladies away. I'm told the skewp draws women like a light draws moths. We'll see. My wife remains skeptical.

It should be ready first of next week. I'll post pics.

The overspray of paint is a bit much.

 

14k, + I saved the taxes on that amount. It's worth 15800 to me, private sale equivalent.

They don't usually move on sticker prices when you trade, but I was able to get them to spoon on a set of big at's.

When my brother traded in his Evo for his (soon to be my, as I'm buying it from him) Tacoma he got enough of a discount off MSRP enough to basically pay for the Platinum warranty and they gave him a grand or so over the trade in value of his Evo, which was rather highly modified so would generally hurt the value.

TLDR, dealers can do anything it just depends how much they are willing to work with you.

Either way, congrats on the upgrade. I wish my soon-to-be tacoma was a double cab but I can live with the AC.

Um, Hello! I got the Toyota ECP for 6 years/125k...

 

Here it is, all shined up, complete with 30" Rigid SR light bar and the towing mirrors I kept from my old truck.

 

Nice truck, how do you like the v-6 compared to the 4 banger? Auto trans as compared to the manual?

 

Love the automatic. Haven't dipped into the power, as I never even did this with the other truck, unless I had to. Haven't had to yet with this one. Fuel mileage, so far, has been pretty bad. 17mpg, 18.5mpg. Driving slower than my grandmother. Granted, there have been a lot of cold starts and short trips. At 60-65mph, it looks to be pretty good (maybe even better than the 2.7), judging by my ultra gauge. At 30-40, it looks to be a lot worse. Time will tell.

 

When my truck was stock, I could knock down 20-21 mpgs. Give it time to break in, and for you to learn it's sweet spots for milage. Good observations.

10700 mile update:

1 rear shock leaked out, warranty.

Front diff had growling noise in 2WD, front diff replaced. Warranty.

Fuel economy, 17.8mpg average. High of 19.6, low of 15.5. Not really impressed. I know it's a truck, but my co-workers that run GM/Ford/Dodge, doing the same kind of driving, get a bit better on the high end, a bit lower on the low end, but average very close to what I do. Carrying around over 1000 extra pounds, with 130+ extra HP.

For some reason, the brakes are better on this truck than my '11. More initial bite, less pedal pressure. Dunno?

The extra 13" of wheelbase give a bit better ride, at the expense of a few extra points on tight turns. The large back seat, compared to my former access cab, rocks.

Oh, and whoever designed the trailer plug in should be fired. You can brag about approach and departure all you want, but when the first thing that gets hung up is a vulnerable electrical component, the bragging is moot...

PS--it pings at low RPM and light pedal pressure.
