Another thing about the earlier "got fogs instead of headlight kits" is that the ones for fogs would have different ring for H10 vs. the H4 ring that fits the headlights but I suppose if the actual light/fan unit is same size then either ring could fit on either light.

 

IIRC, it says something like 300,000 hrs on the box or on the website. I saw it somewhere.

 

Well we've already seen at least two QC issues:

1) The skewed adapter plate (poor design as well)
2) One backwards bulb

 

Right, I can see this. What I'm saying is mine aren't. I have one LED that is not correct one that is. It came like this out of the box. I've tried seeing if I can turn the three pronged ring but I'm unable to turn it. The two little black plastic pieces where the ring screws into is placed wrong. Unless you can turn those little screw holes I'm going to need a new one.

Grrrrrrr........so I tried this thing again. I took off the metal bracket. Turned the black thing a quarter of a turn. It came off then I was able to reposition it. What a PITA....you'd think a bulb as expensive as this would come appropriately oriented.

 

So far it seems like people who bought the lights from elsewhere has lots of problems...Counter fake, maybe?

Did anyone who bought lights from HENRY have problems?

 

I suppose. Mine wasn't skewed or a poor design. In fact mine was designed pretty well IMO. The mounting plate was just as strong if not stronger than a stock bulb.

The "backwards" bulb I don't think was backwards because of the quarter turn that it takes to remove the bulb from the mounting bracket itself. Turn the bulb 180 and I figure both cords would face down.

I understand the high beam issue with some but I've not experienced this yet as evidenced with the pictures. I "personally" think they are quality bulbs and so far am extremely happy with them. I wish you could have had the same outcome because it is probably one of the easiest mods with the best upgrade for the money I've done so far.

 

That is my thoughts exactly. Henry has been very easy to work with and I've had no trouble with the bulbs from "him".

 

I did buy them from Henry but like RearViewMirror says the bracket being upside down would appear to be a design aspect. Maybe there are other trucks/cars that need it a different orientation than my tacoma does. For me it was more of an inconvenience having it upside down. I think the bulbs are high quality and I don't question that. I think the biggest frustration was the lack of instructions that came with the bulbs. I've only begun "tinkering" with my truck and not being as mechanically oriented I need shit laid out for me in easy to understand language with pictures preferably. I didn't know you could reorient the bracket. Had there been instructions I'd probably not of had a problem.

Henry has been a pleasure to deal with. I have no issues with him or the lights. I'm really excited about them actually. Just didn't like the little "upside down surprise"

On another note....I lost one of those stupid little screws. Anyone know what size they are so I can get a replacement?

I understand what your saying about the "no instructions". I could see where if you've never messed with the headlights on a Tacoma it is a PITA. Even just changing a regular light is a PITA. It really is a poor design on the headlights IMO on how they are made. If you think that's hard though... try removing the entire headlight assembly. That will make you say motherfucker even if you don't say motherfucker.

All that said, I don't think you should have had to remove the screws. What I mean is the bulbs themselves turn a quarter turn out of the housing. I "think" if you would have just turned the "bulb" 180* it would have quarter turned back in the correct position (I could be wrong though). I agree... It should have been that way from when you opened the box.

In hindsight I wish I would have done a better write up of exactly what you need to do to install these lights. Not that they are hard to install but just to clarify any issues that have arisen.

I don't see how the bulb orientation in the box matters. The sleeve thing only fits one way on the housing and you need the sleeve thing off the bulb and installed on the light housing first so who cares how it is in the box. Once it is clipped to the housing then you shove the bulb into it after the donut gasket has been put in place, line up the tabs, push and twist until it stops. 1 LED faces up and one faces down. IIRC, both of the wires off the back pointed towards the passenger side or down. Big deal, plug the driver in and done. I think I tried bulbs in both sides of truck and the wire orientation was the same. That was never an issue for me, I just had the low beam and not much of a high beam thing.

Bulb orientation with these lights matter

 

Unlike how you just responded right? It isn't rocket science to plug it in, turn it on & tell whether it is right side up or upside down based on which setting the stalk is in on the column. There are only 2 LEDs, the bottom one should be lit when stalk is on low beam and not as bright as when the stalk lights up the blue light on the gauge face.

 

Actually....I believe you are mistaken. The TOP light should be on as the reflector will reflect the light downward in "low beams"

 

You're instructions were fine......it's obviously my reading comprehension which sucks. You'd think with three college degrees I could figure out simple headlights LOL And that DAMN SCREW!!! I can't find that little fucker anywhere!!!! I'll be calling Lifetime LED tomorrow to see if they know. That is Unless Henry is around here and he knows what size they are and how to get another one. I'd thought about going to like Walmart or an optical store to look at glasses lenses or even the computer store we have a Microcenter here. They might have small screws like for hard drives that would work well I bet. I just need to know the size of the stupid thing.

FOUND IT!!! That damn screw SOMEHOW fell and landed in the crack of the box!! No WONDER I couldn't find it on the floor or the table, and have completely torn apart my dinning room trying to find it!!! GRRRRRRR I need a drink.

 

Just need to have one question answered! Should I expect to have different results because I have a 2010 and not a 2012?
