    my first poll........

I really enjoy playing Chess. My dad taught me when I was young, he played in many tournaments and did quite well locally.

I'm in the process of teaching the game to my 10 year old twins. They're getting fairly good.

Lets see the percentage of TW members that play Chess, and how old were you when you learned?

    Nothing yet, brand new!
I need a new table though. I've been looking for a good deal on a nice heavy (marble) or similar table.

I was taught by my father and at the time next door neighbor who was a german immigrant that escaped to the West side when the wall went up.

I play, but not often. I learned how to play the game when I was around 11 years old, but I wouldn't say I am very good at it.

I learned from a cousin when I was somewhere between 8 and 10 years old. I was a pretty regular player in high school and college. In my twenties friends and I would spend afternoons playing chess and drinking beer / wine. When I was on the road (rock musician) I'd sometimes play for money (and almost always won).

About the time I turned 30 it seemed that both (a) none of my regular chess partners continued to have interest in the game and (b) I lost interest myself - something I've never quite been able to explain.

amazing how we can tie Chess in with many things in life. Even whether to buy a Taco or not.....:D

in teaching my kids, I've whipped the ol' check-mate in 4 moves on them to get them to be more aggressive. Funny to see their faces......

I learned around 12, but didn't play seriously until I was 21ish. Haven't played in a long time, but I see kids playing chess with each other over thier i-phones. Now I want an i-phone.
