So I've been researching on a new exhaust system for my truck. Trying to get a nice sound with better performance for a good price. I'm interested in the magnaflow stainless Cat-Back System PERFORMANCE EXHAUST. It has the turndown in front of the rear tire. What are your thoughts do you think this is a good option?

I have seen that system. It is nice. I like Magnaflow also. They have a nice sound on a lot of vehicles, not a CTS 3.6L though. I have Magnaflow on my Mustang.
I digress, the Tacoma kit is built well, like all of their stuff. That kit is what made me do what I did to my MBRP. I got rid of the dual pipes going over the rear axle when I changed to Deaver springs and just dumped it with some turn downs.

You don't think the turn down will be too loud in the cab?

So point it at a 45 degree angle to the side and shouldn't be a problem? A little noise ain't bad just don't want it so loud I can't have a conversation lol

Nate has that one (motoxdoer)..... I heard his a couple weeks ago and that sob is really loud outside, and he says the drone inside is pretty bad too.
I'd def not want that attention... He says he has to be easy on it when he's around cops.
To each their own, but I'd rather not worry about annoying neighbors or cops, as well as I'd like to be able to listen to music and hear others talk while driving.

Save your money, buy a muffler, chop off the end, weld on the muffler and a turndown.

I have a Magnaflow system including highflow cats on an '01 DC. It exits behinf the tire and is quite noticeable inside the cab. Maganaflow states it is a medium sound but in my opinion it is louder than that. If that is not a problem then I think it is a great system. The muffler is a quarter the size and weight of the original.

I would like to save the stock exhaust system incase I ever have to go back to stock

Did you notice any big difference with your magnaflow other than the sound? Thats great, noticeable is what im looking for but annoying is not. I guess if I dont like it I can just take it off and sell it to someone on here...

Personally I feel the engine breaths much better with the K&N and the Magnaflow. I live in Tucson AZ and running through the mountains east of Tucson the engine runs much smoother in third gear and some hills can be taken in OD. This is at the speed limit of 75.
I have not measured the fuel mileage as of yet so I cannot attest to any improvement in economy. I purchased my system and cats including sensors at the Parts Bin.

I know the TRD editions come with mandrel bent tubing from the factory, not sure if the SR5's do or not. If they do you will be wasting money on a catback system as you're paying for the exact same pipe you already have. I welded in a Magnaflow muffler and cut the pipe just after it arches over the rear axle. Nice growl to it from outside but not loud inside the cab at all. Just my .02

Does anyone know what size Magnaflow Muffler you would need to order to replace the stock one? I crawled under my truck yesterday and it looked like a Center In/Center Out but I didn't think to measure anything. I have a 2013 Double Cab TSS 4WD.

Looking for something with a little better tone but don't want the whole exhaust system. I plan on chopping the exhaust where it bends right behind the rear axle.

I would go on Magnaflows site and call their customer service. They were very helpful and coached me on a deciding factor for my exhaust.

I have the magnaflow mufflers on both my trucks I have the 18 inch one on my Tacoma.it's really not that noticeable untill you give it some gas..has a nice tone to it. And I have the 14 inch one on my dodge ram now that thing is pretty loud on idle and sounds louder when you give it gas..it all depends what sound your goin for .Both welded on saves you alot of money I payed 120 installed ..

Thanks. I appreciate the help and the feedback. The best I can tell the stock muffler is 18 inches and an offset in and out. I will give Magnaflow a call to make sure I am headed in the right direction. I will keep the stock in case I need to go back.

I know this discussion is about a 2nd Gen Tacoma, however here are my thoughts on MagnaFlow and so called performance exhausts. I had a TRD exhaust made by MagnaFlow that I bought in 98 (that was supposed to last the life of the truck but didn't), don't notice a bit of performance gain except louder under load. Then I went to a weld on MagnaFlow, again not a bit of performance gain just a tad louder than the TRD. I have since acquired a free stock cat back from a 2013, cut the muffler off and welded it to my 98, not a drop in performance just much quieter and now I am happy again with the low rumble under load. To sum it up, I don't think the MagnaFlow mufflers provide any performance gain over the stock 2013 stainless steel muffler.

I have to disagree. Once I put my magnaflow exhaust I could feel a noticeable gain in throttle response and a good increase in torque. There is a louder noise in the cab so if I were to do it again I would get a turndown after the rear axle rather than before or just go with full piping out the back. other than that I am very happy with magnaflow. But that is just my impression/experience.

It would be interesting to see dyno results before and after a muffler swap. I'm thinking some of these improvements are psychological, especially for those who put down major $$$ for a complete stainless steel cat back system.
