after much research, I decided to stay with my factory rear end housing. Everything I have read says that the non TRD rear end is stronger than the TRD. so I went looking for the best locker I could find and I ran across Auburn ECTED elocker, has anybody heard of this? It sounds like a good product and it would be nice to have a LSD with the option for full lock on the fly. If any body has heard of them or has personal experience with them, please share the info. thank you.

I'd go with ARB or a Yukon Zip Locker. Also the strength difference between the 8.4 and 8 elocker is marginal. You'll never find the limit on either of them unless it's a full out build on large tires.

no, im just going to put a small lift and keep my 275-65 on. I still am going to have my truck as a daily drive. I would love ARB but Im not sure if im ever going to use it enough for the price. I may just do a TRD axle swap and run the wires. that sounds like the cheapest and some what effective way to go. what do you use?

You should be able to do an ARB w/ compressor installed for around $1500. I haven't researched swapping out a Off Road axel but I can't imagine it would cost less than that.

What costs are you coming up with for the axle swap?

I'm running an Auburn limited slip rear end. Have been for the last few years and so far, it's all good.

You don't say whether you're running the sport or off-road package. I'm pretty sure the ECTED will not work for the sport though.

I dont think I can convince my wife to let me spend 1500 on a locker lol. I wish.

a coworker of mine got a trd rear end from a junk yard and installed it himself for around 300 plus random parts.

Oh really, how do you like your auburn? How does the locker work off road? What did it cost all together for parts and install?
I just have a regular prerunner none trd. I got stuck in s soft dirt parking lot. Very embarrassing lol.

It's not perfect but it is better than the alternative which is open. Cost about $800 installed. Off-road, when you would like locked, it doesn't always lock but for the kind of off-roading I do, this is OK.

That's cheap. If you have the skill then it's very doable. Might have to check some junk yards.:)
