What's your plan for mounting the RTT Andrew?

That's still in the planning stage. The RTT I'm getting has the annex so whatever I go with will have to raise up in height somehow. I really like the setup Box Rocket has on his trailer, with the self raising gas shock rack.

I'm definitely open to any suggestions :)

Box's setup is the way to go.
The only trailer's I've seen that have a telescoping RTT are done like Adam's or some variation of that. I'd stick with what seems to work. You definitely want that tent as low as you can get it while en route.

I agree with having the RTT low, definitely. The trailer has a pretty wide stance, but the more stable, the better. If it wasn't for me wanting the annex I'd just use a set of Yakima cargo bars or something like that and put the tent right down on the trailer top. Box had mentioned to me in a PM that the square bars he used for the telescoping setup would bind up every now and then. I wonder if round tube would eliminate that issue..

I'm willing to bet the binding is just because it's hard to get 4 tubes perfectly vertical and have them all ascend/descend at the same rate, regardless of square or round tube.
Fortunately for you, you live in AZ where rust is pretty low on the problem scale. I say leave your sleeves bare metal and lube the hell out of it. Paint just adds a sticky layer. I leave the sleeves for my crossbars in my bedcage bare metal for the same reason. Just hit it with a wire wheel as needed.

yeah, the binding has nothing to do with round vs sq tube. It just happens when a corner is trying to move up or down at a different rate than the other ones. It rarely happens with mine and the binding is only enough to slow the rack down going up or down and it only takes a little push to get it to keep moving.

You know it :) I've had my eye on military trailers for years as a side project, but thankfully I have the long bed so I haven't really had the need for a trailer.

    Yet.

Annex's are overrated, IMO. Some love them, but I see it as not necessary unless I was bringing dogs and didn't want them up in the tent with me. They are handy, don't get me wrong, but for me they're not worth the hassle and the height restrictions that come with them.

I'm getting one for the kids to sleep in on trips and what not :) otherwise I wouldn't need one. I'm probably going to be building these trailers :D I already have a co-worker that wants one built.

On Friday I drove up thru Phoenix, Sedona, Flagstaff, over to Holbrook and finally Snowflake and brought the trailer with me for a long highway road test (which went flawlessly!) Went and visited a fellow TW member and was able to find some wheeling on his property to test out the trailer coupler.

As a matter of fact, there was one thing. As Germ and Snowtank can confirm, I was doing some pretty crazy shit with the trailer in a wash at Germ's place in Snowflake, specifically the high-speed drifting and jumping. In the process I managed to *slightly* bend the axle tube (didn't even notice it till I got home), and found some flaws in the spring setup.

All that in the name of testing; I wanted to make sure the trailer could stand up to anything I threw at it. But weaknesses were exposed and will be corrected.

No worries tho, I bought a new 2,000# axle today and ordered a new spring kit, complete with brackets, hardware etc. Also, certain areas of the bed are getting reinforced/gusseted and the tongue area of the trailer is getting revamped soon :)

If you're going to do that work, why not 3500 lb axle?
Considering you already bent one axle, I'd consider it for the strength over the 2000 lb axle.
