Goodyear Wrangler DURATRAC's

I've always been a grandpa driver. I stay between 65-70 on the interstate and don't take off at stop lights. I have been thinking about upgrading to a TRD exhaust and CAI, not for MPG, just for a mod. What kind of PSI are you running?

 

34 just enough to keep tire pressure light off.. i run 55mph or 60 in the 65 zone.
keep her on 70 on the freeway.

 

Interesting. Seems like the higher the psi the better your mpg usually is. I don't know, it's probably just my luck lol. I don't expect 19mpg, but 14.5-15 is a little drastic if ya ask me for just 265/75 tires load range c

 

I have 265/75/16 Duratracs load range C and get 15mpg avg too. Tires are 33 PSI.

 

Average of 17-18 mpg w/ 265/75/16 load E. Approx 35 psi. Discount Tire keeps that up with rotation every 5000 miles.

 

I'd say my mpg dropped about 1 to 2 MPG. But I lifted it at the same time and added sliders. 265/75/16 C's same as you and I rum them at 36-37 psi. Are you sure your driving conditions didn't change a bit? Got to run several tanks before comparing.

 

I'm going to air up my tires next tank and see if that changes anything. My area is about like yours krob, so I shouldn't be getting this bad of MPG.

 

How do these tires do in the sand?

Agreed...and what kind of headlight covers are those?

 

Anyone that claims they don't see much change is lying, but a 4mpg loss by going to a 75 series is unusually high. I would say the average decrease is about 2mpg.

 

Just got a set of 265/75/16 in E!

 

Could some of you guys with higher mileage post up pics using a quarter to show tread wear...I am at 15,000 miles and want to compare mileage...

I just had them rebalanced today. I had a horrible wobble. Seems a lot better, but they seem to be hard to balance with some age. The shop road force balanced them. Look at the weights around the bottom of the wheel. Almost a third of the wheel. The guy commented on how unbalanced they were and didn't think they would ride smooth. Like I said it rides much better. But damn thats ridiculous.

 

There is a lot of weight on 3 of mine, around 20z. The tire shop says Goodyears are usually not made very uniform and hard to balance. They said Michelins are like the roundest tire and take minimal weight to balance.

 

I probably have around 40-42k on mine. This is a quarter... couldn't tell what previous poster used...

 

I buy it. Goodyear where I bought mine tried twice to balance mine. Used a lot of weight, still shook the truck at 55-65mph. About a week later I got new wheels and had the Duratracs mounted on them at Discount Tire. Used a lot weight, still not balanced. I was dreading returning them since I was working 70 hrs per week and The Goodyear shop here is really fucking slow. When I seen an old friend who owns an independant tire shop that I forgot about. He told me he had the Hunter machine and would charge me $20. if I worked around his scheduled business.
When I went to pick up my truck. He told me they used half or less weight on each wheel and I had to test drive it. They hadn't had time and if it wasn't better they couldn't be balanced. Smooth as glass now. He later told me they were a bitch to balance and I'd better give him my business from now on.lol.

 

Ive had mine balanced 3-4 times in the last 20-25k miles. There still not perfect but liveable

I dont think im going to get duratracs next time..

 

I mentioned about spinning the tire on the wheel. He said it could make it worse. They kept blaming the wheels offset saying that's what was making it hard to balance.

This is the second time they've given me some attitude about my wheels and tires. They act like if you don't come in with factory wheels and a comparable oem tires that it won't work.

When I first had my wheels and tires put on, they told me the tires wouldn't fit because the wheels had no offset. Of course there was more room than factory because of less offset.

I've heard this about Goodyear also. I never had balance issues like this before with other brands of truck tires.

This is my feeling too. I like how the tires handle and look, but too much hassle. I didn't throw any weights and I had a wobble that was bad enough to keep me off the highway.

 

Yeah, I can't imagine trying to balance these without using road force balance.
