I got this last weekend, and have been tweaking it a little ever since. I love black and whites with real dark skies, and I really like shots looking straight up through the trees. This has both, but still doesn't quite work for me. Thoughts?

I think its cool. But i bet what is putting you off is how sweet and white the bottom trees are..and how dark the top ones are. Not the same contrast.

It's weighted too much to the dark area of the sky to the left of the center white tree and below the little cloud. Maybe try cropping or rotating it differently? I just rotated it by turning my computer :p and it seemed like it might look better rotated 90* clockwise, so you could try that and see what you think. That's my trouble with straight-up shots, though, I never know what way to orient it...

Its hard to beat Gitzo legs. New the tripod goes for $600 and the ball head $300 so its a pretty good deal!

Rotating it 90* CW did help a bunch, I like it a lot more that way. Wierd. I'll edit and reupload when I get home.
    Thanks Kevin!

Hmmm did you try flipping it in different ways, too?
Edit, just played around with it and I actually like it much more flipped 90* ccw from the original

I think shots like these need something that leads them into infinity. Tree tops merging kind of thing.

For me, it's a kind of black hole. Definitely a good idea though.

I did rotate it all the way around, I like it best 90* CW. Next time I am out I will look for more spots like this. Maybe the trees are just in wacky spots. Thanks for the help though guys!

    Question for you camera guys.

I have a Cannon EOS 5D 12.8mp camera that use, nor have a ton of interest in. My father in law is a camera geek and got a little over his head with this camera and gave it to my wife and I cause he wasnt using it.

I am thinking of selling it since it is just collecting dust, any idea what this would be worth?

    Cannon EOS 5D DS126091
    Cannon 580EXII
Cannon 77mm Ultraviolet lense 24-105mm lens
    Cannon 67mm 70-200mm lens

and some extras, cannon bag, chargers, battery, sunshades.

    What haven’t I changed?
Assuming you have the original boxes/accessories and they're in great condition, you could probably get these asking prices:

    Canon EOS 5D - $450-500
    Canon 580EX II - $300-325
    Canon 24-105mm - $600-700

The filters aren't worth a lot, probably around $20-30 or so at most. I would just include the 77mm filter with the 24-105 lens.

    This.

The pricing is close but realistically, the 5D is 2 generations older than the 5D MkIII.
