I think the duratrac is just going through the phase that the BFG AT did a while back. I remember everybody and their mom running them.

People who want to make some kind of informed decision use forums/boards/reviews to gather info on whatever it is they want. If there are sufficient positive reviews, the buys just take on a life of their own, and then a small number of "right" choices get seen and propagated as "best".

Not just tires, lots of peoples style is set by what they see and read too.

Homebrew bumpers and sliders, 5100s & Eibachs up front and mutt leaf pack out back, 285s & Wheelers type B, sway bar deleted. Wife's ride: 01 4Runner 4wd sport. Stock with exception of TRD taco coils, and shift kit.
I was seriously considering them for the wife's 4runner last fall. Didn't think they were that popular, which is a plus for me, plus I had a few good reviews for them. My kelly safari TSRs (also made by goodyear) were awesome for an AT and the duratracks looked a little more aggressive with a little more siping so it looked win win. She said no because they were to aggressive so we jumped on the Michelin band wagon.
