Nice. You've invested some serious coin into getting a really strong sub that will last for years.

This is a fi car audio feeler sub... If I like the performance and it wows me how I think it's gonna I will be getting a 18 team sub and run it at 3-5k rms in my dodge stealth with a Dave the box guy octoport... If space permits it...

Yeah, that could work. Then it's not seeing full power until you want it to, and it's an easier load on the VC's. I still don't think I would run the amp at full tilt though, I'd tune it to 2/3 gain, and run it like that for a while, to loosen things up.

I won't put it into clip if that's what your saying I have this product I bought for 150$ called Steve Meade designs distortion detector 1 designed to handle up to a 15k watt amplifier

Just listen to it with the bass loud enough to make it sound complete

I've seen the SMD product on youtube, looks like a cool little device. You should be set then, run it in 4 ohm til it's broken in, then re-wire for 1 ohm.

Or I could put the cd with tone test tracks on the 40hz one and put it at a lower volume for say a full tank worth of idle time... I've seen data collected at 20-50- and 70 hr brake in intervals

I suppose you could do that, but that's a lot of idle time on a stock charging system with what I assume to be a heavier than normal load. I would probably just break it in normally, listening to music, set to a 4 ohm load and have the amp tuned with your SMD device. Then, after a few weeks, swap the wiring to 1 ohm, and go to town. Probably easier on the truck.

Got my box today have it wired at 4ohms.... Around 400+ rms... I must say at 400rms this fi is louder than my 2 mtx square subs in a sealed enclosure in my gmc sierra and they are being powered at 2ohms amp running at 1,800RMS!!!! Tells me I need a ported enclosure in my gmc

in my unprofessional opinion, all break-in does is loosen the suspension and establish a constant sound. i say play it as loud as you are comfortable with. if you think an improper break-in is going to damage your sub, then you wasted your money on a crap product.

i will now go bash my skull against a brick wall :frusty:

    Listen to Steven.

You are worrying waaayyy too much about a 'break in' period for the driver itself. My opinion is that the whole break in period thing is more for the user than the driver itself. Just don't overpower it. Make sure you explore it's limitations before you go blasting it for long periods of time. Yes, the driver itself will loosen up a bit during its first several hours of play time, but if it's a decent driver, I'd be willing to bet that your ear couldn't pick out the difference in sound, especially since we're talking about sub woofer frequency ranges. I have been RAILING the volume on my JL10w6v3's with 1200w since day one and I can't say that they sound any different than when I first put them in.

This sub will be handling the 1200 rms on its own.... It's not like I'm splitting the difference with two mainstream subs with extremely loose spiders from the get go... Have you ever felt the suspension of a dd or fi? A mainstream sub like jl audio mtx kicker alpine... These subs you can bottom out by resting your hand on them... Where as this sub new with decent pressure you might move it half a cm
