Bad day yesterday...my 86 yr. old in ill health neighbor across the street called me just before 7 a.m. and said he needed help. got dressed and had to go in the back door where I saw a slipper and his walker on the patio. Inside he was on the floor and told me he had to crawl in to get the phone and couldn't get up. I tried to get him onto his sofas to no avail. I called 911 and a LEO was first to arrive. He helped get him on the sofa and he seemed fine. The LEO asked him a few questions and then asked if he wanted to go to the hospital to which he said no. The EMT's arrived asked him some questions about his health and asked him if he wanted to go to the hospital and he said no again. After making sure he was okay they all left. I put his cane and walker within his reach, stayed for a few more minutes asking if he was alright and left about 8 a.m.. I called his wife who works as an aid on a school bus and filled her in. She said she would be home shortly. When I got home after 4 p.m. there were a lot of cars at the house and my other neighbor told me he had died:eek:...after I left, he went into their bedroom to get ready for an appointment and that is where his wife found him. EMT's said he had been dead about an hour. Sorry for being so long winded but I am questioning my self about whether I should have stayed with him longer as I was the last one with him before he died. Please keep his wife in your prayers. Thanks.

Thoughts and prayers for his wife.

And for you Ken. That's a tough one. You couldn't have changed anything, but that doesn't make it any easier on you. :(

You can't help but ask these questions in a situation like this but it sounds like he wanted to be in his own home and not sustained by the technology in a hospital for his remaining time. The EMTs who came and you respected his wishes. I am hoping I would make the same choice if faced with the decision. Both you and his wife and family will be in our prayers. I was an EMT in the 70's and I always had the feeling that the people I recovered and transported who had died were through with their struggles here and on to a better place.

You sound like a great neighbor! You did everything he wanted you to do. My prayer for you will be about you finding peace.

    Morning all:
Agree with the others Ken, you did as he wanted. Unfortunate that the outcome wasn't good, but he was asked by the responders if he wanted to go to the hospital. Sounds like he didn't suffer; that's the only good part.

    HAPPY B-DAY Mark!!!!!

Raining here, and the river will be messed up for awhile. Looks like shad and walleye fishing will be on hold for awhile. :annoyed:

I looked at you pics - which is what generated the above question.

I am not one to ask about the winch as I am always looking to make the truck slipperier - not to hang more wind resistance creating items on it. That being said; I used to drive in the woods quite a lot in a former life and never even felt the need for four wheel drive. I never used a winch and the one time I did get stuck I pulled myself out with a big come-a-long. <g> After walking a good ways to get it I always kept it behind the seat after that. I guess that 'insurance' worked because I never got stuck again. <g>

So what do you think of the 60 grain stingers? And what are you shooting them with?

I have to agree with Rob. Ken, you did what you could as a good neighbor, so don't let it drag you down for too long. The gentleman is certainly on a better plane of existence now .... not saddled with this place.

Doc, are you still out there? Any words of advice?

    Tex

Made a lot of progress on the Tacoma detail today.

This is a hood pic after polishing and a wipe down with a product called Eraser. I like it better than an IPA wipe down. IPA is Isopropyl Alcohol and Distilled Water mixed 50/50.

This is the hood after 1 coat of cquartz UK and 1 coat of Reload.

I am now waiting for the product to cure overnight. I do not have time to work on it till tomorrow evening.

Ken - don't beat yourself up. You did what anyone would do to help your neighbor. Odds are, even if you were there you would not have been able to do anything more. Rest easy.

Thanks for the birthday wishes - only one more year before I become an "official" member of the group here.

We were on vacation last week driving the Z3 in the mountains of NC with a bunch of friends. Love those tight, twisty mountain back roads - lots of chances to dig down into 3d gear to climb those switchbacks!

Stay safe everyone - lots of rain and wind here but no thunderstorms or tornados.
