Getting the tire plugged after finding a screw in it (thanks to Eric for spotting it!)

Also having them put sticky weights on instead of the ones around the bead so that I can finally paint these ugly ass wheels!

Toyota is trying to push the smart stop recall on my truck.

And I say NO. NO. NO!

It would eliminate two foot driving! Any throttle input is overridden by pressing the brake pedal! Wtf!?

They did mine even after I signed the waiver telling them not to. I wasn't overly happy about it...

As for the FJ, the only thing I don't like about the manual is that they're full time 4wd (at least the older ones were, not sure about the newest model).

Who said anything about wheeling it? I just want to have one.
Cruise nights, nice summer days, trips to the beach, etc. would be more awesome in a vintage FJ.

Have you seen the pricing bubble on the FJ40? People are paying six figures apparently for them these days.

    Case in point here

    $16.1K with visible rust...

Late to the party, but this...

Mine had 143K and I wouldn't have hesitated to put on another 100K, but my guide was broken. It's not a fun job to replace and since mine flunked MA inspection for an unrelated issue I liquidated it sadly...still kicking myself for that one.

If the guides are bad you'll hear a rattle on cold startup and then between 2000-3000 RPM. A Toyota OEM filter cures some of the startup rattle (which occurs because the timing chain tensioner needs oil pressure to take up the slack on the chain and non-OEM filters don't have an anti-drainback valve) but it's usually a tell-tale sign of a bad guide.

They're noisy and not particularly powerful motors, but if you're not wanting any speed, they'll do the job quite well. Like I said, I still regret selling mine to this day.

So I have been reading and reading about lockers. The different types of differentials. From open, gear driven LSD, lunchbox, automatic lockers, to air/E lockers. I guess I am not fully understanding all of their uses because I have one question. Why is there not an LSD/air locker combo for both front and rear difs?

Something like a Detroit truetrac that can be air driven to be full locked.

Can anyone help me understand if this is even a good idea?
    Go.

Ridiculous price level to be sure; doesn't mean I don't want one anyway. Shit, I want a 1968 Dodge Charger w/426 Hemi, dual quads, and a 4 speed in midnight blue metallic.:D
Doesn't mean I'll ever get it.:(

First a question; Why air-driven instead of e-lock?
The new Wranglers have an ABS-actuated limited slip system that disengages when you lock the axles. And Toyota has A-TRAC and a locking rear diff (TRDOR only, obviously). Both combinations give you the advantage of both limited slip and a locking diff.
I guess probably the reason you don't see more front/rear locker combos is because of corporate liability lawyers coupled with general public stupidity. If all you've got is traction and no slip in a system, something's going to break. Couple that with Joe Retard who wants to show off his new rig to his buddies in the parking lot at Starbucks and you've got either expensive warranty repairs or a lawsuit, and lots and lots of bad PR either way. :notsure:
Another reason could be that if you're opting for lockers in the front and the rear, odds are you're not looking for the availability of 'mere' limited slip. And if you just want a regular old limited slip diff, odds are you're probably not going to shell out the extra $$ for a set of front and rear lockers.

    I meant a selectable/situational locker.
Also I am mechanical LSD no ATRAC. I am thinking a single replaceable carrier that Is a full time LSD with a selectable locker when needed. Aka tire comes off the ground. This is all within a single dif. Not a front to rear dif truck configuration.

Hey Dave- I see you got the FJ rims on your truck. Looks nice. Mine will probably be up for sale after tomorrow. Switching out my tires with the Fierce Attitudes i got from Otto in Jersey. Also went to Jersey for the color matched cap off Mike last week. Dropped the price to $400 bucks. Good deal. Truck looks totally diff. You know of a good LED reverse light cause i cant see crap out the back at night. Sorry i don't know crap about your locker question.
