So we put in almost the same amount of gym time in. I put in around 5 hrs a week and you put in around a tad more :notsure: I just don't to the conditioning to justify being able to eat what I want

Eat waffles, burgers, pizza = workout 2 hours to get here: :D
Eat grilled chicken, salad, and a Coke= workout 1 hour to get here :D

    I'll take the latter

I think and correct me if I'm wrong but it Sounds like you're working out to eat.

That is the wrong perspective of lifting. Eat to fuel your body. Lift to build your body. If you're lifting to eat what you want, you'll rarely if at all see results and you'll get burned out fast because you're not seeing results.

I don't do metabolic conditioning to justify anything, I do it because it works and it's good for you!

Gym time means nothing if it's not intense...I try to be done with weights around 45mins...and longer than an hour of lifting you may be talking too much...

Easy...it's just second nature once it becomes a part of you..

No, I eat what I need to in order to get the results I want. I did start incorporating your tabata stuff post-workout a few times a week, for heart health and because I hate long, boring cardio. I like HIIT though, so tabata is perfect. Anyway, I don't lift to eat. I eat what I need to in order to get my desired results in the gym. For me, eating a semi-clean diet yields better results than eating dirty all the time b/c I'd just get fat. I am, by no means, eating like a bird or under-eating. My body gets the fuel it needs to have an effective workout on a cut or a bulk

    oil change...

my wife and I are 28 and 29 and we have a 4 year old. We both work full time jobs.

I usually go to the gym at 5am before everyone is awake at my house.
My wife gets off around 12-1pm hits the gym while our kid is still at day care.

We also have just built a garage gym so if we cant make it to the actual gym for whatever reason we can pickup some stuff and put it back down at the house.

For us its just part of life and we look forward to working out, its never a burden or anything.

I mean, I'm not slacking in the gym, by any means. I go in and bust ass for the entire time I'm lifting. My lifting takes about 45 mins, as well. I do either abs or calves for about 10 mins and 1-2 times a week, I'll do a tabata afterwards (4 mins), so my lifting sessions are never over an hour, but they aren't just going through the motions. I lift heavy and make progress each time. This is a slack-free environment

This is where I will differ from most of the guys here. I realized that going to the gym 6-8 hours a week is a lot of time. Outside of the gym I didn't have much of a life during the work week and then worked around my gym time on the weekends. In the Army this wasn't bad since Work started at 5:30am and ended around 6 for me. By time I got done with dinner and the gym it was time for bed. Made the days go by faster and benefited my job. Now that I am in college I realize that the gym isn't a huge necessity for me. I would be better off working out a few days a week just to have some more time for studying, social life or just relaxing.

The other thing you may come to notice is that size isn't always a good thing. I hated being 200+lbs...it just plain sucked. My future jobs are going to require long hikes with a pretty heavy pack. More weight = more effort. I know you are becoming a welder and some of the jobs are physically demanding so you might want to consider what you need in the long run.

Do I think its cool when guys like Sean can keep on track and stay huge? Hell Yeah. More power to him. His kids are gonna think he is super dad growing up. Does it benefit his job? Maybe, physical appearance played a big role in the military and I am sure it helps in with police as well. I can't speak on how well he can actually perform but most of the big guys in the army couldn't hang when it came to doing our job.

I should also note that even though I joke about eating unhealthy all the time I actually eat pretty good. I don't worry about the little things or if I have a gut. Within a month I can drop all my weight with basic cardio and have a six pack easily.

Buying gym equipment was one of the better things I have done in a long time. Its nice to have the freedom to workout when you want and not have to factor in how long it takes you to get to a gym. Granted I live a short 10 min walk from the gym...still much nicer to roll out of bed and not give a fuck.
