Because if you've even scanned through them you would realize that the quran preaches more peace and equality across all sexes and races than the christians BELIEVE their bible does.

As Cesare Beccaria said way back in the eighteenth century, punishment needs to be certain, swift and severe in order to be an effective deterrent to crime.

In today's society, it is none of the above. Jails and prisons are full of folks on their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tours. Because they have too many programs, rights, and privileges. It is no longer unpleasant for them, which is why they could care less if they go back.

We should go back to the days when prison meant hard labor, and the inmates had to work in order to pay for their own incarceration, instead of making society pay for the douche bags who victimize them.

 

I was told it isn't supposed to be a deterrent earlier.
