Oxygen bottles!!?? Just stay hydrated!! But yes if you haven't been here a while it may not be a bad idea. It's all mental :D well depending on your shape. We hiked it last year with my buddies son who flew in two days before it. He did good but he was a college athlete so that helped.

Yeah, oxygen. They are great, and they work. If they go up they will need them. They will thank me for it, and if they don't use them they can return them.

I doubt it would be that bad when driving up there. I have climbed several 14ers and have never had an issue. Out of towners will definitely feel the lack of O2 but not sure it would be that bad. Plus it's good for ya, makes your hemoglobin count grow

They seemed in good shape when I met them today I think they will be fine. I don't want to sound like a dick but I've been taking people to the top since the late 90's when we moved here and no one has ever had a problem. Yeah some people get out of breath but they just move slower. That's cool you can buy so 02 tanks though never thought of it.

Si.. Hydration is the key to altitude.

They are cool. My brother in law is from Massachusetts and climbs telephone polls for a living, he is in way better shape then I am. He got high then a headache, it all went away once we got down to about 9,000 feet. At the top the oxygen helped us to get rid of it all so we could hang out longer and not hurt. You take a few breaths of it then your good for a while, then it comes back and you do more.

Cardio cardio cardio. :D I do hike it every year though so I'm just messing with ya. I'm glad they enabled you to Enjoy it, the views are amazing. I'm willing to bet if hydration was better the head ache would have been non existent. I pre hydrate for elevation the day before and drink a lot while hiking.

Oh I was hydrated, Thursday I got 2 ltrs from the hospital. I have cancer so I'm not in the best shape, still doing radiation therapy. The oxygen was great.

Don't worry about the cancer, I'm doing good, it's just being a pain not going away like it should.
Hodgkins Lymphoma isn't supposed to be hard to get rid of but almost 3 years fighting it and the shit just doesn't want to go the hell away.

Oh I know that's why I said I didn't want to sound like a dick in my 2nd post about it. I'm impressed you are up and being active. A family friend went into hiding with treatments. Kudos to you. Those things are cool though. What Toyota dealer had them. I might get one for my mtn bike trip to help me breath because the people I ride with climb hills like mountain goats. They will get a good laugh if I bust an 02 tank out and hit some whip it's on the trail. :D

Jesus, Oxygen bottles for the trip, would have never thought about that. When we get down there I will defiantly get them if we make the trip up to pikes peak.

Thanks again everyone for putting things into perspective. We really liked Fort Collins....but if there is one thing that is going to sway us in the CO direction for a move, it's Casa Bonita.
