And this is why there should be mandatory drug and alcohol testing for welfare recipients. Should also have your benefits revoked if you become pregnant while on welfare. I would gladly pay more every month for these to be implemented because i would end up having to pay less in a month or 2 when these freeloaders get kicked off the system.

Agree 100%. Put a lil bit of TW flare to it and perma-ban people who pop hot for drugs, alcohol, or get pregnant while on benefits.

 

I'll never forget last summer, working a kids summer activities program, told one of the 3rd graders, whose mother drove a new cadillac CTS

"Wow! Your mom has a nice car!"

"Yeah! But we're really poor and on welfare!"

I was on the state welfare program while working at a grocery store and attempting to support a wife and kid at 19-20. We got next to nothing a month, just enough to cover the kids rice cereal and formula but I would see folks with $400/month for food and an extra $200 to cover utilities and rent come in. THey would buy a pack of gum with the card and get cash back (legit if used for rent) then use the cash to buy smokes and booze.

Testing for drugs isn't cost effective, and taking their right to reproduce is unconstitutional. Take away the money and you're only hurting their kids. The system is very broken, I'll give you that, but it definitely saved my family for a short time and I've more than paid it back since. Hell, my years working as a teenager probably paid for what I took for that period.

 

You are an exception and basically the definition of what the programs are designed for. I dont think anyone would have an issue with that, as I am sure you can surmise.

 

I really don't think I was the exception. I think there are more people getting assistance than we know of, and that we only hear about the abusers because that's what is reported on.

 

The media pushes/shows only what their backers want you to hear and see.

 

Here is a little WTF.

In 2013 over $14B was spent by the Fed Government in providing crop insurance to farmers. Now you may think "we need food, farmers gotta live"

But like any other system there are abusers. I personally know farmers who will not manage their acres, plant cheap corn as thinly as possible, ignore the crop and then collect the insurance when it fails. Doing this over 100's of acres all the while participating in other government programs where they collect 'Green' payments to help them better mange the land.
