Honestly I skipped the reading because there are oh so many threads on this.

    my truck:

    2013 TRD OR 4D 4x4 w/ 7 year extended warranty $30,900
Icon stage 3 w/ tubular control arms installed by myself (not that hard) $2,600
Method double standards wrapped in 285 KM2's $1700
A TRD OR more capable than a baja $35,200

My point is You can build a truck with way better bolt on suspension and the wheel and tires you choose for almost the same price as the baja. If you want to go the baja route I'm not knocking it and you can say "I own a baja." Cool, or you can do a little research and work yourself and own a more capable truck just about the same price or cheaper.

    Hello Ken(Indytruckchampion)
Do you know what the limited number of 2014 Bajas are?
And which are the rarest colors?
    Thanks

Just curious, but does this mean you have more knowledge and insight than all of the TRD engineers that test, design, and fine tune their models? My point is there is much much more that goes into tuning a suspension than just throwing one on. There are a lot of variables I rarely see discussed on topics such as these. Tuned right, a truck with less than the best can easily out perform others with the most expensive parts money can buy.

I agree. The baja is also capable and very capable. It does lack the extra 1 inch height which can be fixed solely by adding new UCA and add leaf or changing leafs completely. It was designed with this mod in mind. It is the best warranties setup any professional and newbies can acclamate to immeidately. However I like the fact that there are options for suspension but no one beats Bilteins completely completely but options out there. Even jeeps still use the old Bilteins 5100 and the bajas uses a totally different model.

I think this one is at Manhattan Beach Toyota now. I'm 90% sure I'm buying it tomorrow. So excited to get back in a Tacoma! :D I sold my '08 and regretted it ever since.

As for the thread - I love tinkering with my rides. But what it comes down to for me is the fact that it is setup this way stock. I'll never mod my suspension. I just won't. I'll add a roof rack. I'll add an exhaust. But something about installing something that complex intimidates me, so I'd rather just buy it ready to go!

    Just my .02.

    Wish me luck tomorrow!

Love my 2013 baja. If you don't want to do aftermarket suspension it's a great way to go.

Love my Baja but the dealer did not want to budge on the price, maybe because all the dealers in my area didn't have much to choose from, and the ones that they had were not 4X4)

I'm down to 3. 1 black access cab Manual, 1 red access cab auto and 1 double cab white. Make them gone guys. Look on carvertoyota.com and ask for Ken Gregory. They are all marked down to sell...

Just sold 3rd Gen 4runner, have Jeep TJ
White Baja TX at Manhattan Beach Toyota right now. Looks awesome. I just wanted to look at it and daydream but could not shake the saleman nagging me for half an hour. I am in the middle of a big legal case (read http://gfwd.at/1pkUSlf) and told him but he still would not leave me alone. Kept telling me that he already sold two this summer so I just should know no one budges from the sticker price hah....he kept repeating that.

I hear both sides of the debate...but if my legal case ended tomorrow I am one of the off-road guys who is not mechanical. Yes I know real men wrench on their trucks etc. However most of my adult life I was a full time cop, AND a full time college coach (Yale and Georgetown). I never had time to tinker or learn how to wrench, neither do I have the tools, a garage, or even a driveway living in a beach town apartment. Any work I have done on my 4x4s cost an arm and a leg in labor, or in the past took lots of time scheduling guys from the 4x4 clubs to help me which is great but not ideal.

TRD OR package on the lot loaded is $34k. Baja is $38k. Supposing I got a different salesman and could negotiate....

If someone like me buys a TRD OR package for around $34k, adding the ICON lift kit could easily run me $1k or more in labor and if I did it at a Toyota dealer I am sure it could be double that. Will the dealer cover the truck down the road if something comes up and I have an aftermarket lift with work done at an off road shop? What if I leave LA and deal with a totally different dealer?

Fancy rims and tires could run me another $1500. Cost of any decent lift kit and labor could be $3k if not more. I think that is more than the $4k difference in sticker price PLUS no hassles nor peace of mind worries about warranty should I need to use it. I drive off the lot with a lifted TRD OR model with nice rims and tires for around the same price of me lifting it myself...

Just me, a guy with no tools, no garage nor driveway to do any tinkering and someone who is a little OCD about warranty issues were I to actually buy a freaking expensive brand new rig versus some of the cheaper used rigs with high miles that I usually purchase.

If my legal case ended tomorrow I would be going cash in hand to Manhattan Beach Toyota trying to get that Baja, or if I could order an access cab in red or black I would do so. Then slap a bumper and winch on it, and have a road trip worthy hunting, camping, exploring rig. Lord knows I love my Rubicon TJ, but not if its anything longer than the one hour road trip to Big Bear.
