Point it at the moon tonight (it's pretty low on the horizon-maybe not).

I'm pretty excited about it. I was lurking craigslist and eBay for a 5DC and this popped up for $900 on CL and I emailed him instantly. Got an email to call him and he seemed super legit over the phone so I snagged it. Super nice guy, works for a marketing company and lives in the Hamptons. Company bought him a 5D3 so he was selling this haha.

I ended up shooting mine at 400mm on the Tamron 200-500.
I needed 400 to frame in the two stars that became visible. Too bad I couldn't get Mars in the frame, but it was too far away.

Is it visible yet? We were on the new moon just a couple of days ago.
Should be a really nice slice if you can find it tonight.

It is during the day. I saw it almost 3/4 of the way through it's arc across the sky, starting to set at about 11am pacific time

Yes. but it's also high in the sky-rise (for you) is 0845ish and the set is right around 0100.

I was looking this evening but for us, there are some scattered clouds that obscure it a bit. No moon for me.

I got REALLY lucky on that Milky Way shot.

I was worried that the windy conditions was going to be a problem, but it turned out pretty well.
I'm actually hoping to repeat the "performance" next new moon in Carlsbad NM.

Anyways... My classes were done, so I went to bed at 8 and set the alarm for midnight. Got up and headed out about 70 miles west of Phoenix then headed south until I found a nice dark spot.
Got back to my hotel at 4:30 and went back to bed.

Got back up at 8, grabbed a plate at IHOP, and hit the road to head home.
The entire sky was brown with blowing dust. Visibility wasn't horrible, but the sky was not blue.

Here's a couple more fun shots.

On the first one, I didn't even realize that I was getting the big dipper in the frame until I opened the file and I was like WOW!

Second one, I started having fun playing with the flash. I had set the white balance to tungsten to kill the yellow tint that I got on my first couple of shots, and I figured WTF... why not fire off the flash to pop some of the foreground.
Played with the bare flash, then with the Amberdome over it.
