Another thing is depending on what you get architectural vs structural, the number designations change, as in they c it 60 some fuck for one but it's really 50 some fuck.

So I posted a while back about a 110 welder and decided to wait to pick up a bigger machine. Should be picking up a like new Hobart 175 with cart and bottle tomorrow for $480. I feel like it's a pretty good deal and can't wait to work with gas (I've only ever welded with flux).

We order 4000 series aluminum for a lot of signs. But either way. Get 6061 and use 4043 wire. You wont have a problem with that

Was a bit drunk and on my phone, there is architectural and structural aluminum. Between the two the the number designations don't match up sometimes they call 6061 in structural and then in architectural they call 5052 but it's really 6061. Those aren't the actual numbers just an idea. You should be fine though cause you'll be using structural.

5356 is prone to cracking if I remember correctly, we use it if something is going to be anodized, but it welds like shit. I could be wrong though.

5000 series aluminum is extremely difficult to weld properly without cracking. You have to preheat the metal to a specific temp and then weld it and make sure it gets down below a specific temp within 15 min. and every second its over that specific temp after 15 min you lose strenght and that when you start getting your cracks. and if you try using 5000 series wire on 4000 or 6000 series aluminum youre gonna have a hard time.

Speaking of aluminum, is there any type of heat or cryo treatment that could be used on our transfer cases to help prevent them cracking under load or from impacts?
