Had mine for 6 years now, 2008 4x4 Taco. No regrets about the transmission. Wouldnt change it either. I've never owned an automatic in my life. I'll be a man till the day I'm old and senile. Only regret is not going the the 6cylinder. Yes, I have the 4cylinder. She might be small, but she's a champ.

My 95 had a manual 5spd, I loved it and am disappointed by the 4spd auto in my current truck, and if a manual were a option for the 1st gen 4x4 DC then I'dve gotten it.

The first auto I ever owned was my 2009 TRD Sport that I bought new. I REALLY didn't expect to like that auto driving off road but I would definitely not change it now. Not on this truck anyway, maybe something a little different. I like how smooth you can be and how in real finesse situations you can just never be that smooth with a manual. Like finessing across a muddy off camber side hill without breaking traction and sliding sideways, or especially deep snow wheeling where you want a really soft power delivery to the wheels. Also I found the manual in these 2nd gens really made it feel like a tractor compared to the auto, with all the vibration and whatnot, but maybe that was just that particular truck that felt like that who knows.

The other day at work I jumped into a 1-tonne truck that I don't usually use and looked down and it was a standard. I realized holy shit, I haven't owned anything standard since I sold my little VW diesel commuter car 2 years ago. I remember swearing I would never buy any auto vehicle lol. Anyway driving it around I got a really bad craving for a manual truck again ...

Maybe the next one will be manual, I do plan on ditching my 4runner and replacing it with another taco, I have kind of an addiction to them lately lol.

Some days I do other days I don't. Overall I am glad to have a manual transmission.

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
Yup, I feel the exact same way.

If a 1st gen double cab could be had with a 5sp manual, I probably wouldn't be in the truck I am right now. Love me some 1st gens!

Nope! Love my 5spd, I used to have an auto sierra tow rig and I hated driving that truck, it didnt seem like driving. Traffic is easy just ride behind a big rig and let it idle in 1st. The only time I have regretted the 5 SPD was when I fractured my ankle playing hockey and drove home from the rink. It felt like a samurai sword was being jammed up my leg every time I hit the clutch. One tip is to practice shifting without the clutch, I had a slave cylinder shit out on an old jeep of mine and that saved my ass. In the taco I usually only use the clutch in 1st and second after that I just rev match.

You'll gladly give up your man card when you hear the chirp in an 05 6 speed...

Justifying your " man level " on the type of transmission your truck has is pathetic

    Just sayin

    stock, for now
I regret wasting the money on this truck period.

    Squeaky clutch
    Bad springs
    Wheels that corrode
    Rusty frames
    Plastic bed
    Motor mounts that cave in
    Engine ticks
    Paint sucks
    Thin sheet metal
Clutch sucks from the factory and needs to be replaced with T/O bearing under 60K

What else do you want me to list? Lol

Drove a truck for 20 years..all manual . Traffic sucks with a 10 speed...lol. Anyway...I went WAY out of my way to get a manual...and love it. I'm not thrilled about the rev hang..but that's just toyota's throttle software. The manual transmission ? Nope...here to stay.
