Function over fashion is my vote... any increase in function going with the more complicated route? and how much ground clearance is the difference... and how much are you gaining over stock with each design?

Tacomas do drag their beds a lot since they're long. Gotta keep that in mind.

It's going to wrap around and come up to each fender well. Increased functionality would be about 30 less pounds.

I am just guessing on the clearance but I think with the simpler design, it will add between 6-7 inches and 4-5 with the fancier design.

Think "departure angle" too. Sticking out an inch further can have the same effect as sticking down an inch further.

Basically draw a line between the contact point of your rear tire and your bumper and try to make that angle as steep as possible.

Probably not telling you anything you didn't already know....

I never measured for that before. I think
I should gain some due to a shallower bumper front-to-back. But not much cuz my short ass needs to be able to stand there to wash the topper, and to give the swing arm something to rest on.
I used all 10 factory bolts for my brackets. Not going anywhere.

Doesn't look like it to me. That looks strong as hell. Good job.

Thanks! Needs some serious grinding. We were using 6011 for deep penetration but that shit comes out ugly.

so the less good looking wouldn't have the wrap around? if that's the case go with the wrap arounds

SWEET! you'll love them! what group buy you talking about... if you need help let me know... mine went pretty smooth... just took forever because I painted several coats then realized I needed to cut some more... so more painting lol

that's not much... especially if it's just from the ground... not including departure angle... I'd say go fancier and call it a day... you'll like it better

why 6011 you running 120v? but good choice for penetration... you could just grind them down smooth and then go over it with 7018 for a pretty weld... like a cap pass... but honestly it'd be a waste of rod. 6010/6018 is hard to get looking pretty especially going uphill or over head... not impossible... just difficult. and will never look as pretty as 7018.

If only one of them will have a wrap around, do the wrap around. To me that's not even and option because you will want to protect the sides. Just make sure if you do that to put bars underneath the sides as well. I see people only put them on the sides sometimes only to just smash the bottom.

They both wrap around. Those numbers are increases in clearance over stock. I will be cutting the bedsides and the bumper will ride underneath the new cut line but will also stick out further than the bedside so that I can slide the back of the truck an a tree/rock/ whatever and not destroy my body panel. Even though it is already fecked.

without seeing a sketch...(I understand keeping it a secret) it's hard to say...

I'd say go with your gut on this one...

My opinion is... if the more complicated design is stout enough to handle the extra 2" of hang... and better looking... go with it... that way you're not wishing 6 months down the line you should have done the other one...

Well it isn't so much if a secret now as I am deciding between a couple variations of the design I had before. I am just thinking that if I do the lower one, I will be wishing that I had gone for more clearance. You may have just helped me answer my question and make up my mind.

Lol Oh I dragged my stock one a lot. Mostly the hitch though, and I will be gaining like 10" from the bottom if that if I go the simple route. I will have to go buy a huge drop hitch though lol.
