I just got back from my maiden voyage with my new RTT. Performed flawlessly even in the torrential rain we got this morning out on the Washington coast. But I brought my camera along with me and snapped a few pics.

You can see more on my site, but these are a few of my favorites:

Anyone download gimp? I am trying, but after I download the installer, I click on run, it does nothing. I hate computers.

Not lately, but I've been using it for years.
Installed on the new Windows-8 system no problem 6 months ago.
Haven't run it in a while, but I just opened it and it runs fine on the 8.1-Update system.

Shouldn't be a problem... we're running 7 at work and it's fine there too.

Two shots I got tonight out trying to get a pano. The first one, I forgot my tripod and all the waterfalls are starting to go crazy. So I sat in the mud and steadied the camera on my boot. Took eight pictures and two weren't fuzzy. The second one is a panorama I swear! just kidding.

Well this is my weekly entry. It was actually my backup one. I managed to get a good deal of the parking deck in the shot and ended up cropping way more out than I wanted. I had wanted all the sidewalks in it but of course the damn parking garage was all in the left side and distracting as hell. It also ended up cutting out half of the tree in the middle. uugh! I didn't get a chance to get another shot.

More images isn't always better. It does mean you can pick and choose panels that will line up better tho.

I usually do panos with 6 or 7 shots. I haven't ever done one with more than that. That was a 6 shot. I wanted to do a pano of Jordan-Hare Stadium but there wasn't a good angle to get it from. It's pretty well surrounded by buildings. A really wide angle lens might get it but it would be tight and you would have to deal with wide angle distortion.

Something like that and I would try a longer lens and do more rows for the detail.

I could just buy a Gigapan and be done with it too. :D

However, I don't take enough panos to drop $1000 on one.

I would suspect a circular polarizer.

I got a couple of shots of Big Boy UP-4014 heading out of the basin in Cajon Pass last week.
One shot was perfect. As the train passed, I tried to frame in a departing shot... the auto-focus jacked around and I ended up not getting the shot.. by the time the shutter opened, half of the locomotive was out of the frame, and I forgot about the polarizer... TOTALLY different looking shot.

I deleted the bad shot... but since I mentioned a shot that included a train, I know I need to post it.....

Its almost like you can see the dark spots are where they overlapped each picture. Owell. Probably something I'll play with more, without the challenge I wouldn't have done it at all. I might plug it into one of those other stitching programs and see if that helps.
Oh, and no polarizing filter on, don't even have one for that lens.
