What ? I'm being fully reasonable and logical

I think what Worthy was getting at is that you can't espouse Christian beliefs and then only support some of them , kinda in a Christian~Light sorta way

Correct me if I'm wrong here

My bad, I'm not a big bible talker. I know it and I have taken what I feel I need to from it. Sorry for the confusion.

Me neither, but my Catholic upbringing told me at least Catholics are currently against all death penalty. Wasn't always the Catholic doctrine though.

The death penalty is an inherently unchristian form of punishment. Hope that's okay to post?

I have been catholic my whole life as well as my family. Never heard that from any of them. Although I dont go to church anymore, I have family that are religious about going...no pun intended. Some go on Wed and Sundays.

Not once have I heard anti death penalty talk.

We are a pretty republican family though. :notsure:

All I can say is, you dont want to mess with anyone in my family. I think I would be more afraid of the retribution that comes from it than the actually slight. Might be from our history in Kentucky, not really sure about it. My dad and his side went to school with the Hatfields and Mccoys. Maybe it stems from that.

A capital execution, it said, is "a clear offense against the inviolability of human life" and can contribute to "a culture of violence and death."

"For Christians," the Vatican said, "it also shows contempt for the Gospel teaching on forgiveness."

While an execution "temporarily may alleviate an appetite for revenge," it said, taking the life of the criminal makes it impossible to fulfill the obligation of justice, which calls for penalties that punish and may help rehabilitate an offender.

Thats all well and good Pete, but you cant possibly think that rehabilitation is possible?
Look at the habitual offender status or percentage. I will defer to you for the research on that.
Do you think pedophiles are curable or rehabilitable? I seriously doubt that, and if it was your child, nephew, etc. that they violated would you even care?

You're missing the point of what I linked , you said you didn't know Catholics opposed the death penalty

I linked the Vatican's position on Capital Punishment .

The majority of US Catholics don't listen to the Pope on a lot of things, since 90% of Catholics use birth control. No surprise the majority of US Catholics are for the death penalty.

While the vast majority of U.S. Catholics support capital punishment, Pope John Paul II has declared the Church's near total opposition to the death penalty. In his encyclical "Evangelium Vitae" (The Gospel of Life) issued March 25, 1995 after four years of consultations with the world's Roman Catholic bishops, John Paul II wrote that execution is only appropriate "in cases of absolute necessity, in other words, when it would not be possible otherwise to defend society. Today, however, as a result of steady immprovement in the organization of the penal system, such cases are very rare, if not practically nonexistent." Until this encyclical, the death penalty was viewed as sometimes permissible as a means of protecting society. The universal catechism--book of rules--for Catholics had affirmed the right of the state to punish criminals with appropriate penalties "not excluding in cases of extreme gravity, the death penalty."

Only here in the U.S. The overwhelming majority of Christians worldwide have a low regard for capital punishment.

And all the crazy laws and stuff are in the old testament cant even eat shellfish. After jesus died for are sins we no longer have to do all that kinda stuff. Before him they had to live like that and give sacrifices for their sins. Now you just need to be saved.

Im no bible expert and wont argue with anyone but that just my understanding on it.
