When in high school, worked part time at my dad's gas station. That was when you pulled , to get gas and I washed your winshield, checked your oil and tires, and offered to empty your ash tray. We sold Firestone tires at the time, and there were considred pretty top notch.

Any way, sometimes, when mounting tires, and doing the balancing, would find that some tires had to be repositioned on the rim to reduce the weights required to balance.

Vibrations then were due to moving parts, tires, joints, alignment, rims, drive shaft, u-joints.. My point it, it always took a keen eye and persistence to solve the issue.

No one brand of vehicle is responsible for all the issues, and in the case of this car, could be a a lot of history behind the issue

As the former co-worker of a guy who owned a Dodge 1500, all I can say is when I was at the Chevy dealer looking for a replacement for my '95 Suburban, I was shown a Ranger, Dakota, and the Tacoma.
I told the guy that even though I really liked the idea of an extended cab, and the Ranger already having a hard tonneau was a plus, that I would buy another Chevy before I'd buy another Ford or a Chrysler product... and I wasn't interested in another Chevy...

So I took the Tacoma on what was pretty much just a ceremonial test drive to confirm that it was solid, was impressed with the power compared to my '94 Toyota p/u... and signed the papers.

I owned a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 4.7. Put over 200k on it, with no problems only needing tires, brakes and oil changes. Then oil pressure problems, replaced oil pump, pick up tube, ect ect. Trade it off. Dealer took it in on trade, lot boy was moving it to their used lot, and the engine became a visible v8! Glad it blew up on them and not another owner.

2003 Ford Ranger 3.0 5 speed 4x4 went almost 300k before spinning a rod bearing. Traded it off.

I want to hit 500k with a vehicle without a major failure.

My grandfather always said "If it has tits or tires its gonna cause you problems" Good words to live buy.

I didn't read through all the responses in this thread, and I certainly understand that such a topic is going to get no love on a Tacoma specific forum. But I think the OP does have a bit of a point. There are areas when I think the Tacoma falls behind the Ram.

Interior is the main one of them. The quality of components in my 2015 DCSB seems to be no where near what it was in my old 2003 Ram, nor what it is in the 2000 Cherokee I have as well. The cheap plastic in the Tacoma scratches if you look at it wrong...

I still chose my Tacoma over the Ram because of reliability and resale. The A750E auto in the Tacoma was a apparently built by Aisin Warner, just like the AW4 in my Cherokee. 226K on that AW4 and not a lick of trouble, so that service history did sway me towards the Tacoma. Wish I would have got the 6-speed though. I hate the way this 5-speed auto shifts under light throttle (commuting in traffic).
