That sounds like it would help. I would either knock the rest of the cement down so the door sits flush or build it back in that spot to block the water

From that picture, it looks like a vapor retarder system and a pretty heavy duty one. I'm sure you've seen people put poly down before pouring a slab on grade, what you're looking at is actually a much better application. Higher end products like Stego are a more heavy duty vapor retarder which is why the joints are taped and all penetrations through the material are sealed off as well. I'm not sure why they'd only do that small part of the slab or maybe they just haven't got to the rest yet but typically, in a good installation, the whole slab should look like that before the concrete hits it.

Either that or it's just concrete curing blankets but that's doubtful for this time of the year and they're usually not that big.
I would suggest concrete but yes, you can add it. Depending on how think you want to go, I'd suggest drilling in a few screws and leaving the heads up. That will help the old concrete stick to the new. There are also bonding agents that can be applied to the old concrete to help the new stuff stick to it. Ideally, you'd want to rough up the old stuff with a chipping gun but what you're doing isn't overly structural so that might be overkill.

Actually, have you considered cutting in a trench drain on the inside and tying it into the existing drain at the end? With the drain on the inside, it shouldn't freeze up.

    Unless his garage isn't heated...

Surprised nobody's suggested plasti-derping it yet.

They just haven't finished yet. It is just poly and the footing have been poured for awhile now

My parent's garage isn't heated and their floor drain doesn't freeze unless it gets bitter, bitter cold. If the garage is attached, it saps enough heat from the house and ground to stay above the freezing temp. The insulated door and warm ground might just be enough to keep it clear.
The footings being poured before the vapor retarder going down is typical. Did you get up close to it? I'd be willing to bet it's a lot thicker than typical poly. Seeing all the pipe penetrations taped off and it being sealed to the footings makes me think it's a vapor retarder.

    Like this stuff:

Don't know if it's attached or not. Mine's detached and any water on the floor starts freezing by the end of November or so.

    Johnny, is your garage attached?

I'm pretty sure his was under the house, like a drive out basement if I'm remembering this pictures he posted when he first bought the house. That was the only reason I suggested it. Detached, there's no way, there's not enough heat in the ground to keep it warm, especially up where you live on the north pole!

I sold my Tacoma today. There won't be another one. It was a very nice truck, but the winter-frost-heave ride was too jarring to my injured head. In a few days, I'll post what I have left that anyone might want. It's not much. FWIW, my daily driver is now my 2000 VW Eurovan. I test-drove a Honda Pilot and Odyssey, and a Toyota Highlander, thinking that I would find a calm ride. The Highlander was the best of the three, but nowhere near as nice (and half the volume) as my 190k mile VW van.

Only if I'm in Canada. Clearly they're very forgiving of that sort of thing.

Seriously, though...How is Rob Ford overweight if he's a crackhead? How is that even possible?

It doesn't look like there is much of it left. Personally I would knock it down and do a new one.

HAHAHA. Thank goodness I have been wrenching on these things for 16 years, and my neighbor owns a Meineke shop.
