That shits all the rage these days. I feel like an old man when I say this but, I don't like it and it creeps me out. It makes me think of someone who was attacked by something and the DRs had to shave the head for surgery.

Agreed. And the problem is that it's "my generation" doing batsh*t crazy stuff like this. I seriously don't understand the desire to look like you just got out of brain surgery (or something of the sort)

But at least I *kinda* understand why people don't trust anyone my age :pout:

Any thoughts on the Warn VR8000 vs. the M-8000. I figure the answer will be if I have an extra $100, spend it. No, I'm not an avid offroader but I don't want to have to worry about it either.

The Warn M-8000 has been a workhorse for a long time. I may be wrong but at one time I thought the M-8000 had a worm gear but it now appears that both are planetary gear driven. The biggest difference between the two is the brake. The M-8000 has a mechanical brake whereas the VR8000 has what they call a "direct drive" cone.

For your purposes, either would serve you fine. The mechanical brake on the M-8000 would really only be necessary if you use the winch alot and potentially subject it to shock loads. If you're just occasionally using it to winch yourself or buddy out of the mud, you shouldn't worry.

Thank you sir. The things that concerned me were the contactor vs solenoid, and "made in USA" vs "globally" sourced parts "assembled in USA".

I wouldn't worry about it. The contractor vs. solenoid is largely a selling point IMO. Granted, the solenoid has a single momentary switch that sticks out and could be damaged, I've never busted one. Just don't use the control as a lasso or hammer and you'll be fine.

    alright guys..... fire extinguishers
I want a smaller one, with a nice mount that can bolt to the bed right in front of the tail light, just inside of the tailgate....
everyone I find in stores has a flimsy plastic mount and says its only good to 120*. in moab my bed can get damn near that hot-back stopper doesnt help the heat.

    ideas?

Trying to see if there's anybody else from up here heading to Overland expo this year? I know it's not the most popular event on the planet (due to an excess of Khaki, so I've heard) but it should be pretty rad. Also I know the Rock Therapy trip is 2 weeks after...

I'm going down with the Fam, and then onto Moab afterward. Leaving the Bay Area May 14-15. In Moab the 19-24(ish) If anybody is headed that way post up in this thread

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/off...oing-year.html

Should at least coordinate some caravan/meet up action...
