i bought some duratracs and i absolutely love them
to the extent, i plan to buy them again, if they're are still available at that point

but, immediately after i bought them, before they were shipped to my house, someone at work told me his Treadwright Guard Dogs and how awesome they are
i respect his opinion quite a bit, and i read other actual user's reviews
i may very well have opted to buy them if i had heard of them before i dropped coin on the duratracs

Yea..is the size difference that noticable?

I actually just found a set of 4 Falken AT tires (35's)..otd price of $1,024 at America's Tire Depot..

I might just go with those..

To start I know this is not safe...
I had warrden treadwright ats and had them off road aired down, which ppl advised against.

I also had them on the highway doing around 95mph towards the end of there life. I had no issues what so ever with highway speeds which is where most of the miles on the tire came from.
I posted earlier about them needing a lot of weight to balance two out of 4.
Treadwright did offer to replace those two tires however they were mounted and I did not have a spare set of wheels and tires at that time. So I opted to roll he dice. Only concern would be with that much weight to balance (16oz) if weights came off May be an issue at highway speeds.

Seriously considering a set of these next time around, I drive a lot of miles, get about two years per set, @$200 per plus all the extra's, that is a grand....

A set of these would be about half the price...when I was a teenager, I always ran retreads (think like 50 years ago), I was burning up the rears every couple of months with teenage burnout abuse...

    Bone stock. For now.
Same here. I put on a lot of miles. Some see that as an argument to just go ahead and buy non-retreads. But after reading a lot of the posts on here from BamaToy and all the other guys who have had real world experience with them (not to mention reading posts on other forums, reviews in magazines, etc.), I am seriously considering a set of these.

i am running the 285/75/16 treadwright guard dogs and love them so far. 10ish k miles on them and still lots and lots of tread left. next set will be another set of treadwrights. However the next set will be skinner if they have them. something like a 33x10.5 size would be nice

I'm running the 265/75/16 Warden AT's on BFG AT casings, had them for about 7,000+ miles so far. Great tread wear so far, look new. A lot of highway use so far, but also a handful of offroad experiences in southern utah desert sand, mud, rocks & washboard roads. They are f'ing great IMO. Drive on snow covered roads on I-80 through Parleys Canyon to Park City for work all winter, one of the sketchiest interstate sections in the US and they handle amazing. Barely ever need 4wd except in the worst of conditions. Run them at 80mph when roads are dry regularly. Great handling. And for $500 shipped?? Brilliant.

I'll run Treadwrights for my next set as well, no questions period. Just my 2 cents, to each their own ;)

Was just told about Treadwrights and thinking about snagging the Guard Dog or the Wardens.. Also, is the Guard Dog considered an AT? the image looks like they're using a Nitto Terra casing.

Any input from someone with more than 6-10k miles on them?

The guard dogs are a MT, not an AT. The casing will be determined on availability. I was able to request my casing based on what they had in stock. You can call them and ask to see what is available. I have about 15K or so on mine and still love them.

Yea I've been reading up on it the last little while. Looks like I can probably get the Wardens with BFG casings for a pretty good price.

Anyone have balancing issues thus far?

I know theres a lot of bickering in this thread so I'll just say this.

I've had the guard dogs and another MT type tire from them before on two different vehicles and they were great both times. Don't expect a top end tire though.

My taco currently has BFG ATs only because thats what came on it. Very soon I'll be switching to Duratracs. for the price difference I prefer the duratracs because they can air down safer and they have a better tread for my dirt/rocks type driving with the occasional small mud hole.

I had no issues balancing mine.

Another satisfied treadwright customer checking in. In on my second set of guard dogs and will buy a third set when these are toast. I have friends that refuse to acknowledge their durability even though my truck has and continues to see far more abuse than their $1200 set of Nittos will ever see in their weak 15,000 mike life span....my MT guard dogs have easily put on 30,000 miles. I'm a believer haha

Got 6-7k on my guard dogs now. Air down great and kedge grip was awesome this past winter.

I don't need any kedge grip with the Vegas weather.. haha but I am eying those Wardens

Do it man, the Wardens are a great tire!! Have about 9,000 miles on them so far.. Originally took them to Discount Tire to install, said they won't touch re-treads. Company policy cause they are too dangerous according to them  Then went to a local shop, Big O Tires, and they didn't even flinch. Installed with no problems. I'm already eying my next set of Treadwrights! Claw MT's I think after these Wardens are toast.. But these look like they easily have another 20,000 miles left on them.

That's good to hear, I'm considering the guard dogs as my wheeling tire (mounted on spare rims) and I'll possibly be spending this winter up in VA, and would like something other than my BFG AT's for the winter up there.

Discount touched mine until they realized what they were... lol Then Wouldnt touch them again. So I went to Evans Tire and for $25 a tire they did life time rotation and balance.

Same problem here. Went to Discount and they said they wouldn't touch re-treads, company policy, and that most tire shops won't do it either and was kind of being an ass about it. Went 10 feet to the left next door to their competitor, Tire Works, and they mounted and balanced them for like $100.
