What's going on gents, how's everyone doing? This coming Friday ill be moving up to Winchester bay OR.... Just wondering how many of you folks are local to winchester bay or Reedsport. Other than the great fishing and dunes what exactly is there to do up there? Im thinkin its going to be a little bit of a culture shock coming from sandiego and making the transition to small town living haha Anyway I Hope to meet up with a solid group one these days.

 

I really hate to break it to you.. But I spent three months in shipyard at Reedsport (Fred Wahl). Assuming that you're transferring to Umpqua River Station?

Reedsport fuckin' sucks. Seriously. There's nothing. Don't leave anything unsecured in your truck, meth is pretty much the leading past time of the entire town. The Harborlight and Double D's are okay restaurants, don't think there were any non-meth head bars in town. It's just far enough from Newport to be a shirt drive, about 40 minutes from Coos Bay. There's some okay camping and wheeling in the Siuslaw, forget the name of the road - but the first right on your way North out of town is some pretty cool terrain.

I've got a welder/wheeler buddy down there if that's your thing. I could pass along his #.

Seriously dude. Good luck. Hate to shit on your duty station (no pun intended), but the 3 months I spent there sucked horribly..

I grew up in North Bend/Coos Bay...spent 29 years there. Winchester Bay is a hiccup.

So yeah...fishing and maybe some off-roading opportunities. I wasn't into that when I lived there.
