Painting new sliders

My wife and kids use the sliders as steps to get in and out of the truck. I put about 7" of grip tape where we step to get in and it works perfect for non slip protection. Only downside is tearing your skin off when getting out. My daughter had a few scratches from getting out.

 

Just something about your wife telling you to lift it next makes me think you've found a good one lol mine says I spend too much time working on my trucks lol

 

Paint is dry so I laid them down to paint the underside of the bases. As you can see, there were a few spots that I missed yesterday, largely due to the fact that I couldn't see them. If I were to do it again, I'd use the same jig but have it sitting on saw horses so I could see everything easier.

 

Yeah the bed liner is a nice grippy surface to use as a step but everytime I get out of my truck I hit my calf muscles and get out and see a big ashy scrape on my slider. haha. It's not as rough as grip tape but it's enough to make it non slip.

Trail report.

Banged them on rocks and used them to steer me around some tight trees. No surprise, the rocks scraped them down to bare metal where they hit. Where the trees hit the kickouts, some of the black wore off but the white primer is still intact. My kids have also used them as steps and I've kicked them a few times with zero wear or damage.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with how the paint has held up. As long as you wait a few days to allow the paint to fully cure, they've been every bit as tough as anything else.

 

Lol yea I foolishly sprayed mine with a rubberized undercoating... Holds up great if your not wearing an aggressive tread shoe lol I'll be trying several different sprays on the outside and underside tubes
