I removed the cabin air filter from my 2009 access cab this weekend and could NOT believe how filthy it was! I replaced it and also bought one for my wife's 2010 Yaris. I opened up the compartment in the Yaris and found NO filter at all. We purchased it brand new and it's never been to anyone but myself for maintenance. I put in the new filter. It fits and there is a place for it. Is there such a thing as a base model that's so basic that it doesn't include them?

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
Billable options or some bs marketing term.
Common parts used on the assembly line.
Toyota will tell you cabin filter wasn't available on 2005 Tacoma but mine has the spot for one so I put a filter in it.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
I think someone screwed up, a simple mistake.

There should always be a cabin air filter installed.

It is detailed in the owners manual. Also, they check it on every dealer oil change service.

After all it makes them money - an overpriced piece of corrugated paper that "needs" replaced often. It's genius!

Finally, leaving it out could allow debris to get into the fan and vents causing issues. I'll bet if it did they wouldn't honor the bumper to bumper warranty, claiming failure to properly maintenance vehicle.

There are some vehicles that do not come with them. Some have the spot for them to go and others just do not. It is not surprising to see a base model without one.

It's a Yaris not a BMW. They would just "replace" it, (and charge you for it) at one of the service intervals:eek:

Search around, there were some places where you could pick them up for around $10/each shipped if you bought 3-4 of them.

Search for brand names Denso or NPN. A quick google search shows they're roughly $10 cheaper than the popular brand names (Fram, Bosch, etc). I bought mine for $6 a piece thru Logical Source when I got my truck 4 years ago; but they went out of business. Glad I bought 5 then, still have two before I'll need to buy again. Looks like about $12-$13 is what they'll cost now.

Logical Source was the place I was thinking of, did not realize they went out of business.

But OP, if you Google "Tacoma cabin air filters" you'll find several links to $10 filters.

yeah, it came up on here somewhere a little while back. I was surprised. Near as I can tell the out of biz part is true. Searches for them seem to run into dead ends.

I've been getting the Denso cabin filter from Rockauto. You have to pay for shipping, but I normally get a few things; air filters, oil filters, wipers, etc that I replcae often to spread out the shipping cost.

and it's made in the USA to boot.

OP, I was Googling around and found this. Here is a sweet tip for making your own cabin air filters for that Yaris...

That dude is on a mission! Considering I'll replace them about every four years at 20-30K miles, I'll spring for the "store" bought kind. Thanks for the link.
