Love the price point, I'm in the market for a 2nd vehicle but I need better gas mileage than 11/13. Should sell fast!

Back in the 60's, International Harvester (makers of the Scout and other four wheel drive vehicles) used the term 'All Wheel Drive' instead of 'Four Wheel Drive' that Jeep and other companies used... for the same system. Transfer case split power 50/50 to the front and rear.

In the 70's, Jeep introduced Quadra Trac FULL TIME 4WD... It had a third differential allowing slip between the front and rear drive shafts to eliminate binding and allow 4WD use on the street. Later, Audi would make a sports car called the Quattro with this third diff so the benefits in cornering could be enjoyed by faster drivers! Subaru began in the 70's with cars that were front wheel drive (FWD) and added a rear differential so off road they could become 4WD. AMC introduced the Eagle, giving 4WD to their passenger cars.

By the 80's, and long after International Harvester went out of the SUV business, it was decided to call the system on vehicles with a third differential, that could be driven on pavement, 'ALL WHEEL DRIVE' (AWD) to separate them from the SUVs without the middle diff, which would be called 4 WHEEL DRIVE (4WD). Subaru eventually left the 4WD market and would offer only AWD on their vehicles.

Some SUV companies (Jeep, Mitsubishi, Toyota) offer a choice between 2WD, 4WD and AWD on the same vehicle providing for the best of all worlds!

*2WD for economy on pavement (front or rear wheel drive)
*AWD for safety on pavement or gravel (third differential, power usually divided 60/40 or 70/30 between the front and back)
*4WD for ability/ safety off road (lock out the third diff for even power split between front and back).

    Have a nice day!:D

Hey what up you guys.? Haven't been on here in Awhile looks like I came in at the right time. That's a pretty sick lookin fj. I just got my off-road magazine and I was reading up on the old 71-84 land rover series 3. Seems like all the old trucks and suvs were the shit back in the day and all the newer off road toys are either pos or you gotta build them up like something is usually wrong with them.

For me I'm a sucker for the Suzuki Samurais haha

I used to take my 1 ton Power Wagon places I'd never take my jeep, my Tacoma, or any other 4x I've owned, half the current motorcycle trails in corral canyon I went thru before they were designated as such, we'd start in Bear Valley/Pine Valley & trail all the way thru to lake Morena, talk about a long trail of obstacles, wow..getting misty eyed just thinking about it..

If you dont care about interior falling apart and you can keep the torque flight alive, those old dodges are beasts.

Don't forget about the tiny ,weak grommetts they used for mounting the cab, i punched thru the floorboard twice.... I had the compound 4 speed then converted to a torque flight 727, never had a lick of issues with it, solid trans. it would even bark my 38.5"'s between shifts...yeah that fucker was pretty much indestructable tho' , 4 lo, in 1st gear, you could forget about it ...chug..chug...chug, never stopped

The torque flight was pretty decent, normally the moparts motor was just to much for it.

Well they have been dragging motorhomes around for years, what I hated the most was the reduction gear starters that have been a joke for Dodge/Chrysler for how many years ?? haha a bunch, i had to burn up my starter once to get out of a huge rut, was at such an angle that i loss gas flow pump couldn't pick it up so 4lo/1st gear was used & turn the key & eventually walked it out but starter was history...

I've used the starter to start my mustang in gear when the clutch arm broke. Starter is cheaper than a tow.

Haha do you think that is a good choice ha. I've lost hope in ford just had a bad time with an f150 and a ranger. Our work trucks we use at my job seem to hold up pretty good their f350 work trucks

Those suzukis do have their downsides but over all they are a bad ass little off road truck
