If you are set on an M/T the KM2's are supposed to be one of the best M/T's for on the street, but I would suggest getting an A/T for purely street driving. They will typically wear better and last longer.

I have the Cooper Doscovery S/T in this size and they make a good on pavement tire, meaning they are quiet. The tread pattern fits into the All Terrain group I would say. I had rubbing with them on 8x16 Method Double Standard wheels ( 4.5" backspace), so I pulled them off and put my 265/76 Duratracs (on Konig Countersteer wheels) back on the truck. The DuraTracs are definitely louder than the Coopers, but not bad by any means. I have purchased a clean set of used 16x7" first gen alloy wheels that are a perfect match in width and offset for the Second gen Tacoma and as soon as I get them powder coated they will be wearing the Cooper ST's. I have no complaints about either tire.

I would recommend a different size tire like a 265/75/16

I didn't know anyone else made a 255/80r17 tire! Those look great! Do you have a CBI front hitch receiver? If yes, how do you like it?

    not.

only adds another failure point and will most likely make those tires fight your fenders for space.

I won't lie - I tried it for all of 3hrs and took them right off as soon as I started ripping into fender at my local pit.

I am running 1.5" spacers with 35's no failures. If you run spacers just buy quality ones. They will not break off. The thought that they will fail or break is just stupid. I wheel my truck hard every weekend and have no worries about them at all.

My grandmother smoked for 75 years and never had a lung problem.

My point is just because you and many people have zero problems doesn't mean adding spacers isn't adding one more point for failure to happen. The facts can't be changed.

Personally being stuck on a trail in the middle of nowhere for a couple hours because some guy in the middle of the convoy had his spacers come loose with no shallow sockets to service them is a joke that none of us laughed at when our trip was delayed.

Increasing leverage on the wheel theoretically increases the stress on the entire drive train.

Properly sized wheels will always be better, but won't diminish the leverage if you go with some goofy backspace to stick your tires out. Ill take my 33's being close to my wheel bearing any day over them sticking out far to look cool.

I'm not saying I wouldn't extend the studs with ARP's and install a 1/4" spacer if I had clearance issues. It's just my opinion that adding 1" + wheel spacers for what people think provides a "better looking stance" is putting form over function. Offroad KISS (keep it simple stupid) applies like no other.

No. The only reason 255/85-16 (a 33" tire) can fit without rubbing is with the smaller scrub radius of the stock wheels. Pushing the wheel out with spacers will cause the tire to rub as badly as any other 33" tire.

Looks good but aren't you going to rip your fenders off under compression ?

Love the front hidden hitch! For me it's great to quickly attach and remove my fishing rack.

When I got my tires I had a spacer on the rear passenger for 10 seconds before I told the guy to take it off. Looked terrible imo

My truck is pyrite mica. I commute almost 2 hours round trip to work every day and the coops are great on the highway. Number one thing is how quiet they are!

Have recently removed front flares till I trim them and get another alighnment.

They are great on the sand! I live a few blocks from a beach buggy access, been on 5 times in the last week, never aired down and never been stuck. I would def buy the same tire and size again.

Is it a lot of trimming that needs to be done?

Test fit before powder, don't think they will work up front. 2nd gen has larger rotor.
Oh ya love my 255/85/16 cooper st. Have 35,000 on them and still hooking up, been rotating my spare in which helps some.

ok, I REALLY want 255/85's I really like the first gen factory aluminum wheels, the 5 spoke ones. Will I rub the FRAME with 255/85s? I DO NOT want to run spacers. btw I have a first gen...

I'm honestly not sure. If you did it shouldn't be to bad. Will have to trim some plastic and maybe bend the pinch seam over.
